Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Sofia both glamorous in white at music awards

June 17, 2016

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and her sister-in-law Princess Sofia were perfectly in sync as the Swedish royal family stepped out for the Polar Music Prize on Thursday evening. Both ladies opted for glamorous white gowns on the night, as they enjoyed an evening out with their respective husbands, Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip, along with King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

Victoria looked stunning as she showcased a floor-length Ralph Lauren dress which she teamed with a shoulder necklace by high street favourite H&M's 2014 Conscious Exclusive Collection. She carried a metallic clutch by Malene Berger, and wore her hair swept back in a bun.

New mum Sofia, who was making her debut at the awards, complemented the future Queen in a white dress featuring a striking overlay. She opted for metallic shoes, statement drop earrings and a bag by Mango, and also wore her hair pulled back away from her face.

The Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by Stig Anderson, best known as the manager of Swedish supergroup Abba. The award is described as "one of the most prestigious and unique music prizes in the world, crossing over musical boundaries and awarded to individuals, groups and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements".

Winners, or laureates, receive their prize at the ceremony in Stockholm from King Carl Gustaf himself. Previous winners have included Sir Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Bjork, Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder, and this year's recipient was Italian mezzo-soprano opera singer Cecilia Bartoli.

Of course, Victoria and Sofia has a lot more than an impeccable sense of style in common – they are both new mummies. The Crown Princess welcomed her second child, Prince Oscar, on 2 March, and just seven weeks later, Sofia delivered her son, Prince Alexander, her first child with Prince Carl Philip.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Sofia will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday

Following Prince Oscar's christening on 27 May, it has been confirmed by the royal palace that little Alexander will be christened in the Royal Chapel at Drottningholm Palace on Friday September 9, 2016.

It's certainly a time for great celebrations in the Swedish royal household. In two days, on 19 June, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Sofia will also mark their 40th wedding anniversary.
