Prince Charles gives away best friend's daughter in stunning ceremony attended by the Queen

June 26, 2016

The Queen was all smiles as she attended the wedding ceremony of close family friend Alexandra Knatchbull and her fiancé, Thomas Hooper.

The beautiful service, which took place at Romsey Abbey in Hampshire, saw royals including the monarch, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Princess Anne among guests.

Prince Charles gave away the bride

Alexandra, who is the daughter of Prince Charles's close friend, Lord Brabourne, looked stunning in a classic white gown with an elaborate laced veil which was fixed to her elegant updo with a tiara.

The two families have a long history together, as Lord Brabourne is also Prince Philip's godson and serves as godfather to Prince William, and Prince Charles was best man at his wedding, while his son Nicholas was good friends with Prince William at school.

As Lord Brabourne was too ill to give Alexandra away, Prince Charles was spotted walking the bride, who is the second goddaughter to Princess Diana, down the aisle, and linked arms with her before entering the church.

Meanwhile, the Queen wore a peach dress with a matching jacket and hat, accessorising with pearl earrings and necklace and a simple golden brooch, and was seen smiling and chatting to the Rev Canon Tim Sledge, who led the service, while Princess Anne wore a pale pink dress and coat, and Prince Philip and Prince Charles looked smart in grey three-piece suits.

Royal family members from around the world attended the service, including Queen Sophia of Spain, Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan and Princess Sarvath al-Hassan.

The Rev Canon Tim Sledge opened up about the "special" wedding, saying that the family have worked hard to make the day perfect. He said: "They've put in a huge amount of effort, thought and care into it. It's got that personal touch. It's very much what they wanted and what the bride wanted. I'm really looking forward to it.

"Every wedding is special. For me it’s all about the couple. There’s lots of speculation about who’s going to be there but the most important thing is that Alexandra and Thomas have the most memorable day that they possibly can."
