Prince George has already started playing tennis, Duchess Kate reveals at Wimbledon

July 8, 2016

Could the future of British tennis be in royal hands? The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, has revealed that her son Prince George has already shown an interest in the game, and is the proud owner of his own racket.

Attending Wimbledon on ladies' semi-final day on Thursday, Kate opened up about little George's love of tennis to former British number one Greg Rusedski. "She talked about George, her little boy, playing tennis," Greg revealed.

"He's got a racket and he enjoys playing tennis, and obviously she plays with William, so they obviously enjoy the sport very much."

William and Kate's love of tennis is well-documented; the Wimbledon regulars recently built a brand new tennis court at their home Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

But the Duchess did confess on Thursday that she finds playing with her husband "frustrating", because he is left-handed.

Both Kate and Prince William are big tennis fans

All eyes were on Kate as she arrived for Wimbledon wearing a vibrant yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress. Prior to taking her seat in the royal box, the Duchess met Philip Brook, chairman of the All England Club, who introduced her to the ball boys and girls working at Wimbledon, and Kate also chatted to Venus and Serena Williams' mother Oracence Prince.

The royal then settled in to watch the on court action with the Countess of Wessex, and was there to see Serena secure her place in the 2016 final with a decisive victory over Elena Vesnina. That wasn't the only highlight of Serena's day; after the match she filmed herself with Kate and Sophie for a Snapchat video.

In the nine-second clip, Serena is seen saying: "So I'm in the in-crowd now, I'm with royalty!" before panning the camera to the Duchess, who smiles at the camera before putting an arm around Sophie and bringing her into the shot as the three laugh together.
