Swedish royal babies steal the show at family photocall

July 20, 2016

The Swedish royal family welcomed two new arrivals this year, making their annual summer photocall all the more heartwarming. Prince Oscar and Prince Alexander, who were born a month and a half apart, stole the show, alongside their older cousin Prince Nicolas, who has just turned one.

The three babies were the picture of cuteness and as good as gold as they posed for the family portraits at Solliden Palace, the royals' summer residence.

Third-in-line to the throne Prince Oscar was cradled by his doting mum Crown Princess Victoria, who stood next to her husband Prince Daniel. Their daughter Princess Estelle had pride of place between her grandparents Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Standing directly behind the king and queen were Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill, who each took charge of their children. Madeleine carried the couple's daughter Princess Leonore while businessman Chris held baby Prince Nicolas.

The newest member of the royal family, Prince Alexander, sat in his mum Princess Sofia's arms, while proud new dad Prince Carl Philip looked on.

Sofia and Carl Philip became parents for the first time in April, having married last year in June. The former model recently opened up about her son, telling Svenskdam: "[Alexander] is very sweet and well-behaved. He's a little mixture of both of us... [He's] different every day."

She added that, thankfully, her little Prince sleeps "pretty well" at night.

Just like his wife, Carl Philip is in his element as a new parent – though he did admit: "The first time does take some adjustment, of course. But it is still absolutely amazing and wonderful."

As Alexander grows up he will be spoilt for choice for royal playdates. His cousin Prince Oscar, the younger child of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, is one month older than him while Prince Nicolas is also one year older.

The three boys also have Princess Estelle, four, and Princess Leonore, two, to play with.
