Kate takes Prince George and Princess Charlotte on a summer holiday to France

July 27, 2016

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their two children Prince George and Princess Charlotte have flown to France for a summer holiday. The royals touched down at the small south-western airport of Pau-Pyrenees on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cambridges arrived in style, flying in on the £8million Cessna private plane owned by their family friend the Duke of Westminster.

According to local publication La République des Pyrénées, the royals were swiftly moved into two waiting blacked-out Range Rover cars that were also registered under the Duke's name.

Their royal protection officers and a group of Scotland Yard personnel were also spotted on the tarmac. The royal party then travelled in the direction of north Bearn and Gers.

It is now known whether George and Charlotte's Spanish nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo accompanied her young charges.

Local reports went on to say that William, Kate and their children were visiting friends and relatives in France.

The Duke of Westminster, a businessman and billionaire landowner, is close friends with the royals and his son Hugh Grosvenor is Prince George's godfather.

It's not clear where exactly the royals are holidaying, although the airport is roughly 70 miles from the coastal resort of Biarritz.

France has always been a popular holiday destination for Prince William and Kate. They took their first holiday as a family of four, with George and Charlotte, to the French Alps earlier this year. The young royals experienced their first taste of the snow during the March ski break.

Once again, the Cambridges borrowed the Duke of Westminster's private jet to make the short-haul flight. William and Kate, both 34, also used it to fly to Balmoral to visit the Queen in Scotland last summer.

Prince George first flew on the jet when he was just a few weeks old, travelling again to Scotland to see his great-grandfather Prince Philip.
