With no official engagements until the end of August, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, are enjoying a holiday in France with their two young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. While very little is known about the private getaway, a French newspaper, Sud Ouest, has revealed some details about one of the hotels used by the family of four.
William, Kate and their children are enjoying a family holiday in France
According to the newspaper, the royals "spent a night" – potentially longer – at the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz, where a basic room costs £422 a night. The five star establishment was famously used at Emperor Napoleon II's summer palace, where he would vacation with his wife, Eugenie de Montijo, and on the website it is described as "neither passé or pompous but profoundly elegant".
The hotel features a spa, with an outdoor swimming pool, sauna, solarium and Turkish bath for guests to relax in, and has two restaurants, which are run by Michelin starred chef Jean-Marie Gautier.
The Cambridges are understood to have stayed at the Hotel de Palais in Biarritz
It's unclear which type of room William, Kate and their children stayed in, but the hotel's Imperial Suite costs £3,304 for bed and breakfast in the month of August.
The Cambridges flew into France on 26 July, touching down at the south-western airport of Pau-Pyrenees on board an £8million Cessna private plane owned by their family friend, the Duke of Westminster. It is thought that they are spending the majority of their holiday visiting friends and relatives.

France has always been a popular holiday destination for William and Kate. They enjoyed their very first holiday as a family of four in the French Alps in March of this year, again using the Duke's private jet to make the short haul flight.
In just a few weeks, the Cambridges will travel much further afield as they head to Canada for an official overseas tour. It is believed that William and Kate will bring George and Charlotte along with them on the visit, marking their first official tour abroad as a family-of-four.
