Sad news - Princess Beatrice of York and Dave Clark have reportedly decided to split after ten years together. The couple called it quits after having a serious discussion about their future together. The two, who have spent the last year in the US for Dave's career, are reportedly still friends following the split, with reports claiming that their decision to break-up was "mutual." Born in the US six years before Princess Beatrice, 33-year-old Dave is son to Michael Clark, a wealthy American lawyer who was head of the legal counsel at Cadbury Schweppes. Dave's childhood was split between the US and the UK, giving him a mild American accent. He was educated at the American School in London before heading to Bowdoin College in Maine which led to him meeting the Princess. It was Beatrice's cousin Prince William who introduced the couple. During his years at St Andrews William met Dave who was doing a study abroad programme at the University of Edinburgh.

William introduced Beatrice and Dave at a birthday party held by Sean Brosnan, son of James Bond actor Pierce, and the two hit it off straight away. Dave and Beatrice were regularly seen out and about in London together, whether at exclusive clubs or on the front row at fashion week and when Beatrice's role as an extra in The Young Victoria hit the big screen, Dave proudly stepped out at the premiere with his girlfriend and her family. The pair then travelled to the US for Dave's career at taxi app, Uber, and Princess Beatrice settled down in the country after finding a job at a consultancy in New York City. The duo were friendly with several other high profile couples including Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, Donna Air and James Middleton and Holly and Nick Candy.

The sporty couple, who ran the marathon together in 2010, have attended Wimbledon together for several years and supported Beatrice's cousin Zara Phillips throughout her appearance at the 2012 Olympics. Dave was also a constant presence at royal family occasions such as Princess Eugenie's birthday parties, several of Sarah Ferguson's charity events and Royal Ascot. Both Beatrice's mother Sarah and her father Prince Andrew are said to adore Dave, who has accompanied them on holidays to the Bahamas and the Swiss skiing resort of Verbier and are "completely shocked" by the split.

The couple attended many friends' weddings including Petra Ecclestone's Italian nuptials to Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall's Edinburgh ceremony. However, their own relationship came to an end after discussing the possibility of marriage. A source told The Mail on Sunday: "After ten years together, Beatrice and Dave had to wonder why they were not married. They talked it through and decided to take time apart to reflect on the future. They remain friends and the decision to break up was mutual."
