Princess Anne cancels engagements due to illness

September 9, 2016

Princess Anne is currently recovering from a chest infection, and has been forced to cancel her royal engagements for the next week as a result. Fans of the 66-year-old have been quick to send their best wishes to her, who is said to have had tests at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Wednesday.

Princess Anne has reportedly been recuperating at the Queen's Aberdeenshire residence of Balmoral after she travelled there to spend the first Saturday of September attending the annual Braemar Gathering for a display of Highland games. The Gathering is a royal tradition, with the Queen herself attending every year since 1952.

Royal duties including a trip to HMP Grampian in Peterhead was cancelled while the Princess recuperated, with a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace confirming: "On doctors' orders she has cancelled her engagements for the coming week. She is resting privately at home."

Fans of the royal family sent supportive messages to the Princess, with one tweeting: "She must be poorly she never cancels engagements, get well soon Princess Anne," while another wrote: "I'm sure Princess Anne will be back in action soon. Very hard working, can't keep her down for long!"

Meanwhile, Princess Anne's older brother Prince Charles has had a very busy week as he was named 'Londoner of the Decade' at the Evening Standard's Progress 1000 event. The next in line to the throne revealed he was "surprised" to receive the award, saying: "I am most touched, and indeed surprised, that the Evening Standard should have decided to give me the award of Londoner of the Decade.

"As I suppose I have spent most of my life trying to propose and initiate things that very few people could see the point of, or, frankly, thought were plain bonkers at the time, perhaps some of them are now beginning to recognise a spot of pioneering in all this apparent madness?"
