Princess Anne is still recovering from a bad chest infection and has had to cancel more engagements, Buckingham Palace has announced. The Queen's daughter has also been forced to pull out of a visit abroad on doctor's orders.

A palace spokesperson said: "Her Royal Highnesses' working programme for next week has been scaled back, with a number engagements cancelled.

"As a precaution, on the advice of doctors, the Princess will not undertake the planned visit to Botswana and Mozambique at the end of the month. His Royal Highness the Duke of York will now undertake this visit."

The 66-year-old royal was taken for tests at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary last week. She was discharged and recuperated at the Queen's Scottish retreat, Balmoral.

Anne was spotted attending the annual Braemar Gathering for a display of Highland games with the Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the royal family at the start of September. However she was forced to cancel some engagements due to her illness.

The Queen's daughter recently returned from the Rio Olympics

She has since been pictured back at home in Gloucestershire, where she lives close to her daughter Zara Tindall and Zara's family – her husband Mike Tindall and the couple's two-year-old daughter Mia. The Princess supported her equestrian daughter at the Whatley Manor Horse trials in Gatcombe.

Anne is one of the most hard-working members of the royal family and carries out approximately 500 engagements a year.

She spent a considerable amount of time abroad in Rio where she cheered on Team GB and attended the Olympics as a member of the International Olympic Committee.
