Phillip Schofield has landed a once-in-a-lifetime royal gig – an interview with Prince Philip!

The TV presenter will meet the Queen's 95-year-old husband for a new documentary, When Phillip Met Prince Philip: 60 Years of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and interview the royal about his extensive charity work over the past six decades.

Phillip will also speak to the Queen and Prince Philip's youngest son Prince Edward, and Edward's wife Sophie Wessex, to learn about their involvement in the award scheme.

During Monday's appearance on This Morning with co-host Holly Willoughby, the presenter revealed: "The first time I met the Duke at a Duke of Edinburgh Awards ceremony, he said to me 'Did you do your DofE award?' and I said 'It wasn't at our school' and he said 'Then why the bloody hell are you here then?'

"I said 'My wife did her gold' and he replied 'Well she should be here then!'... He doesn't suffer fools!"

The documentary will be broadcast on ITV later this year to coincide with the sixtieth anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Phillip will meet the royal as the Queen's husband reflects on the achievement award he set up in 1956, and talk about its positive impact on the young people who take part.

Phillip will also have exclusive access to many major celebratory events such as the special Gold Award Presentation in the garden at Buckingham Palace.

The documentary will celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

To mark its sixtieth year applicants of all ages, whether newcomers or former participants, are being encouraged to carry out their own personal 'challenge' so that they can raise money for the Duke of Edinburgh charity and receive a special Diamond Anniversary Challenge Pin.

The Dancing on Ice star is also having a go, with his challenge involving an airplane.

"I am hugely excited to be working with The Duke of Edinburgh's Award as it celebrates its 60th anniversary," Phillip said in a statement. "It's a unique opportunity to meet Prince Philip, the charity's founder, and to see firsthand the amazing work that the DofE does with young people all over the world."
