Prince George and Princess Charlotte 'fast asleep' after arriving in Canada - see the video

September 25, 2016

Prince William and Kate's two children Prince George and Princess Charlotte went straight to sleep after their hectic arrival in Canada for the royal tour.

By the time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge returned to Government House for meetings with the Trudeaus and the Governor General, where they will be staying for almost the entire duration of their week-long trip, it seemed like the two children were already sound asleep.

The family arrived in Canada on Saturday

As they joined Mr Johnston and his wife Sharon in the Drawing Room, he asked: "how about the children? Are they fast asleep?"

"It sounds quiet!" the Prince replied.

Kate hinted that they may have grown tired after enjoying a hearty meal upon their arrival, telling the couple: "they had a very good tea!"

The mother-of-two also revealed that the pair were "super excited" to fly in an aeroplane, while Prince William joked about the two young children at their first official event, saying that he hoped the pair weren't "tearing up" the Governor's House while he and Kate were away.

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed his own thoughts about travelling with young children during a speech.

"As any parent who has travelled with children knows, it's a whole different experience when you bring your children with you," he said.

"Let me caution you from my own experience, if they are anything like our kids, getting them back on the plane after a visit to the beautiful west coast will really be a challenge."

Kate was also quick to offer parenting advice to well-wishers who had come out to welcome the royal couple, telling one mother that parenting will "get easier" as her baby daughter grew older.

Monique Girard, who had a six-month-old daughter Scarlett, spoke about her interaction with the Duchess.

"She asked me about Scarlett and how old she was," she said. "When I said six months, she said that after this stage it will get easier. It will get better. It was so nice."
