Duchess Kate shows off her maternal side during visit to pregnancy centre

September 25, 2016

The Duchess of Cambridge shared a sweet moment with young girl as she and Prince William spent time at a pregnancy outreach program on Sunday. "I love your dress, it's so pretty," Kate told five-year-old Hailey Cain as she presented the royal couple with a teddy each with specially customised red and black vests for Prince George and Princess Charlotte. "Thank you so much, Charlotte will love this, she loves her teddies."

"George too, he's a big fan, thank you so much," William added. "You're all such well-behaved children."

Kate and William were greeted at the facility by five-year-old Hailey Cain

For the start of their second day in Canada, William and Kate spent time at Sheway, a facility which helps support pregnant women and women with infants under 18 months who are dealing with drug and alcohol issues.

The visit will have been all the more poignant for mother-of-two Kate, and her maternal instinct was evident as she interacted with some of the little infants  - many of whom were the same age as her own daughter, 16-month-old Princess Charlotte.

She presented the couple with two teddies - one for George and one for Charlotte

During their time at the facility, the couple were invited to listen to a story-reading session, where Sheway staff member Jessica Webb read to children from the picture book Sharing our World:  Animals of the Native Northwest Coast.

One of the mothers arrived slightly late to the session holding her baby, and apologised to William and Kate. "Sorry, we just had a little accident to clear up before meeting you," she said.  "No worries at all, we know all about that," laughed the Prince.

The couple then watched a baby weighing session with Dr Janine Hardial, Sheway's physician. On the scales was three-month-old Jasmine Hydrochuk, who was dressed for the occasion in a pink dress and matching pink hair band and bow.

The royals were clearly taken with three-month-old Jasmine Hydrochuk

Both William and Kate were clearly very taken with little Jasmine, bending down to wave and talk to her. "Look at you, all dressed up," said William. "Aren't you doing well, with all this attention."

Kate then told Jasmine's mother: "She is so incredibly sweet and I can't believe how good she is. Whenever we used to put George or Charlotte on the scales, they would never stay still."

William and Kare spent just under an hour at the facility, located in the downtown eastside of Vancouver, before setting off to visit the Immigrant Services Society, a charitable organisation that provides targeted programs for refugees, women, children and youth, including people recently relocated from Syria.
