Prince Harry and his new girlfriend Meghan Markle have been invited to spend their honeymoon in Antigua by the country’s prime minister. At a VIP reception in front of 300 guests, Gaston Browne told the embarrassed Prince: "I believe we are expecting a new princess soon. I want you to know that you are very welcome to come on your honeymoon here."

Harry, who is on a tour of the Caribbean, appeared to blush and avoided eye contact as he fiddled with his shirt, according to the Telegraph. Mr Browne then went on to refer to the fact that the royal was about to meet six of the country's beauty queens. "Whatever is done here, stays here. So do not worry," he said.

Harry was attending a party hosted by Mr Browne at Barnacle Point in Antigua, where he presented his host with an album of pictures on behalf of the Queen, filled with images of the monarch’s 1977 visit to the country with Prince Philip.

He declined to pose for a picture with reigning Miss Antigua and Barbuda Leanda Norville. The 25-year-old later said: "He was a gentleman. Of course I want to be his princess. Everyone at this party does. His girlfriend seems like a nice lady, but I would be a good girlfriend for him."

The Prime Minister's comments came despite the fact that Harry's romance with Meghan was declared off-limits at the charity event. Organisers had told young people not to mention Meghan when the royal arrived. "We were told not to talk about it," Cuthbert Forbes, a 21-year-old worker with the Halo Foundation, which organised the event, said.

"It came up at an organising committee meeting when we were thinking about what we could talk to him about, and one of the core members of the committee said we shouldn't talk about his girlfriend because it is personal."

Instead, Cuthbert joked with Harry about giving him his £65 red suede shoes – "Are they even legal?" the Prince had joked. "I told him I'd swap him my shoes for his princely title," Cuthbert said. "But when I asked him if he was ready to give up being a prince he thought about it and said, 'Not right now.'"
