An unknown charity worker photographed with the Duchess of Cambridge has become an overnight internet hit after Kensington Palace shared his photograph on Instagram. The man, known only as Tom and believed to work for the youth charity The Mix, was pictured standing beside Kate on Monday as she admired gingerbread houses while attending the organisation's Christmas party.

Dressed in a blue jumper and wearing a sticker with only his first name on it, Tom proved to be an instant hit with royal fans, who begged the palace to reveal the identity of the handsome charity worker.

Royal fans begged to know the identity of mystery man 'Tom'

"@kensingtonroyal please please pretty please connect me to the guy standing beside the Duchess. He's gorgeous," wrote one, with a second agreeing: "My thoughts exactly."

A third asked: "Who's the dish in blue beside the Duchess?", while another simply stated: "Tom, the hot guy!"

Kate, her husband Prince William and Prince Harry all attended Monday's party in North Kensington to shows their support for the youth support charity. The Duchess looked particularly festive in a red dress by designer Vanessa Seward, while the royal brothers went smart casual in shirts and suits.

The Mix is one of the eight charities involved in the trio's mental health campaign, Heads Together, and William, Kate and Harry had the opportunity to speak to volunteers about their personal experience of online and telephone counselling support. They also kicked off The Mix Annual Awards by presenting the Volunteer of the Year award.

The following day, the three royals again stepped out together for the traditional Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace, hosted by the Queen. Also attending the festivities were the Duke and Duchess' young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

It was a chance for all the family to get together before the Queen retreats to Sandringham in Norfolk for the Christmas period. She will be joined by close members of the royal family, including Prince Charles and Prince Harry.

This year however, Prince William and Kate will spend Christmas Day with Kate's side of the family, the Middletons, in Berkshire. The Cambridges usually mark Christmas with the royals at Sandringham, but this will be the second time they celebrate with the Middletons since they married in 2011.
