The Diana Award to be presented in May at St James's Palace

The Diana Award has announced that they will present the special Inaugural Legacy Award at St James's Palace on 18 May. A total of 20 exceptional young people will receive the award, in recognition of their commitment to transforming the lives of others. The receipeints, who come from all corners of the world, all embody the same qualities that the late Diana, Princess of Wales had – kindness, compassion and service.

Prince William and Kate to make poignant visit to Paris

Members of the public can nominate a young person before Friday 17 March. These young people will be selected from a poll of nominations by an independent judging panel chaired by Dame Julia Clevedon, Founder of Step Up To Serve. As well as receiving the Legacy Award, recipients will have access to a unique development programme which will provide them with the opportunity to enhance their skills in four key areas; leadership, community development, social entrepreneurship and technology for good.

How Princess Diana's legacy will be celebrated this year

Tessy Ojo, Chief Executive of The Diana Award, said: "Diana, Princess of Wales is widely remembered for her values of compassion, kindness and service to others, irrespective of their culture, race or background. Twenty years since her death, we are delighted to announce that this very special and prestigious Award event will be held at St James Palace on 18 May 2017. We know there are truly exceptional young people across the world who deserve to be recognised. We urge communities, youth groups and schools to nominate them for the Award."

The Diana Award was set up in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, and her belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. It is committed to fostering change through practical action with young people. In addition, to mark Diana's 20th anniversary, a special commemorative website has been launched where visitors can leave their thoughts and memories.
