After a night of dinner and dancing, Prince William and Kate heard the emotional stories from a number of survivors of the Bataclan and Nice attacks. The royals were visiting Les Invalides on the second day of engagements in Paris, where they were introduced to the survivors. Les Invalides was created in 1670 by King Louis XIV to care for veterans and those injured whilst fighting for France, and continues to support veterans with its rehabilitation programmes. The site is also being used to support victims of the recent France attacks.

William and Kate, who gave a nod to her host country by wearing a Chanel coat, met Kevin and Jessica, two locals who were wounded during the recent attacks. The pair have been receiving vital treatment at the hospital on site. William and Kate were also introduced to the first responders and emergency crew who helped following the terrorist attacks. They also spoke to Sgt Philippe, a soldier who has been supported by the prosthetics team at the hospital. Philippe is competing in Prince Harry's Invictus Games tournament on the French team.

Just hours before William and Kate’s scheduled arrival at Les Invalides, a man had been shot dead at Orly airport just miles away, for grabbing a soldier’s gun. The shooting no doubt ramped up security around the royals, who are flying back to the UK later on Saturday, but not from Orly airport.

The royals have a jam-packed day ahead of them. Later this afternoon, the Duke and Duchess, who have left behind their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte at home, will watch the Wales vs France Six Nations rugby match. This will be William’s first engagement as Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since Her Majesty The Queen stepped down as its Patron in December 2016.
