The Duchess of Cambridge was in high spirits as she stepped out for an engagement on Tuesday evening – a night at the theatre! The Duchess donned her finest glad rags for the opening night of the musical 42nd Street, which was held in aid of East Anglia's Children's Hospice (EACH). Kate, who is patron of the children's charity, looked gorgeous in a red Marchesa Notte dress.

She arrived at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to much fanfare, with crowds lining the streets to try and catch a glimpse of the royal. Ahead of the performance, Kate met a selection of guests and was presented a 42nd Street programme by an EACH user, who benefits from the charity's services. Before leaving, she also joined the cast on stage for a group photo.

Kate has been royal patron of the children's charity since January 2012 and has supported the organisation by attending a number of official engagements. The charity supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions. Their specialist services include nursing care, symptom management support, wellbeing activities, and therapy and counselling – all meeting the individual needs of the child or young person, and the whole family.

The charity is currently fundraising for a new purpose-built hospice, The Nook, having outgrown their hospice at Quidenham in Norfolk. The new building will help to provide more families with the same facilities as those offered by EACH hospices for Cambridgeshire, Essex and Suffolk.

Prince George's new school revealed!

While Kate, 35, has been balancing her role as a mum to Prince George and Princess Charlotte with her royal duties, the Duchess also had the chance to let her hair down last month. She attended her sister Pippa Middleton's hen do in France. The group opted for a low-key skiing break in Meribel. That same weekend, Prince William enjoyed a ski holiday with his close friends in Verbier, Switzerland.
