Prince Harry and Meghan Markle look blissfully happy in their official engagement portraits, released by Kensington Palace on Thursday. The two images were taken by professional photographer Alex Lubomirski at Frogmore Hall in Windsor on Monday, showing the couple holding hands in one image, while Meghan has her hand resting on Harry's cheek in the other – showcasing her dazzling custom-designed diamond ring.

The Setting:

Prince Harry and his brother each chose different locations for their official engagement portraits, however they are each royal residences. Harry and Meghan posed in the grounds of Frogmore Hall, a fitting location as they are set to marry in Windsor on 19 May 2018. Meanwhile William and Kate were photographed at St James' Palace.

The Photographer:

For their official engagement photoshoot in 2010, Prince William and Kate enlisted the expertise of Mario Testino, a trusted royal photographer who has since captured the christenings of their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte. However Harry and Meghan settled on Alexi Lubomirski for the task, a New York-based photographer who appears to have a lot in common with the pair. Not only does he descend from Polish royalty, but Alexi also shares the couple's love of Botswana, having lived there as a child.

The Date:

Prince William and Kate's engagement portraits were taken just nine days after their happy news was announced. However Prince Harry and Meghan waited a little longer for their official photoshoot. The portraits were captured in Windsor on 18 December, three weeks after their engagement was announced by the Palace.

Both Meghan and Kate wore bridal white or cream for their engagement photoshoots; Meghan wore a cream Victoria Beckham jumper for her stunning close up portrait, while Kate opted for a cream ruffle-detail Reiss dress, which retailed for a purse-friendly £159 when it was originally in stores in 2009.

Meghan also opted for a second, striking look for her photoshoot. The 36-year-old donned a glamorous Ralph and Russo gown for a second image, which features a sheer top half adorned with embellished applique, and a full bombastic black ruffle skirt, making for a dramatic look.
