Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in style for their day in Birmingham on Thursday. The couple, who were visiting the city on International Women's Day, touched down via helicopter before being driven to their first engagement at Millennium Point.

Harry and Meghan took the time to chat to the crowds of people who had gathered in anticipation of their arrival, with former Suits star Meghan looking typically chic for the occasion in a J. Crew coat and cropped tuxedo trousers. They then joined a group of female secondary school students to take part in a task hosted by social enterprise Stemettes, where they learned to build apps and touchpads.

Later, the couple were given a tour of Nechells Wellbeing Centre, where they watched a Coach Core apprenticeship programme in action. Click through the gallery to see all the best photos from their busy day in Birmingham!

Meghan happily chatted to groups of schoolchildren who had waited for hours to meet the couple. The former Suits star could be seen crouching down in order to talk to them better, even shaking hands with many of them.

While spending some time chatting to local schoolchildren, Harry plucked one girl out of the crowd after she shared her ambition to become an actress.

Sophia Richards, ten, looked stunned after meeting the couple, who told her she could achieve her dreams. She said: "He said, 'You need to be confident and you can achieve whatever you want to achieve.' Meghan said that one day she will see me being an actress."

The 36-year-old broke royal protocol by giving the schoolgirl a big hug after they first formally shook hands. Prince Harry stood close by, and smiled at the other children who lined their entrance to Millennium Point.

Both Prince Harry and Meghan appeared in high spirits as they arrived in the city, and were greeted by hundreds of children waving Union Jack flags. The couple held hands and wrapped their arms around each other while walking into Millennium Point for their first engagement of the day.

Meghan looked typically stylish for the occasion, wearing a J Crew wrap coat, which she styled with black Alexander Wang cropped tuxedo style trousers and a jumper from high-street brand All Saints. The 36-year-old wore her hair down and loose wave, with natural makeup to complete the beautiful look.

Their first engagement of the day aptly celebrated International Women’s Day, encouraging young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem) subjects. Harry and Meghan joined a group of female secondary school students as they took part in building apps and touchpads, while hearing more about their motivations to pursue Stem subjects at higher education.

Harry and Meghan both donned futuristic VR headsets during their first engagement of the day. They joined students from Blessed Edward Oldcorne School in Birmingham before looking at other technology such as pianos made from bananas and how to "hack the web".
