Duchess Kate loves a high five - her sweetest greetings with children over the years

The Duchess of Cambridge has a natural affinity with children and there have been plenty of sweet moments in public during her eight years as a royal. During a visit to LEYF Stockwell Gardens Nursery in London this week, Kate helped to serve breakfast to children. The Duchess poured out cereal for the youngsters and after chatting with them about their favourite foods, the royal mum said her goodbyes with a high five.

It seems to be one of Kate's go-to greetings when chatting to children, particularly on a walkabout or during a royal tour. The Duchess became a mum for the first time in 2013 when her eldest son Prince George was born; Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis followed in 2015 and 2018 respectively.

We take a look back at the Duchess of Cambridge's sweetest high fives over the years…

During a visit to Dundee in Scotland in 2019, Kate took the time to chat to school children who had waited to see the Cambridges. It was a day to a remember for some of the youngsters as the future Queen consort reached out for a glove-clad high five.

It might have been snowy in Stockholm, but Kate stopped to chat with children during a walkabout on her royal tour of Sweden and Norway in 2018. The Duchess was pregnant with third child Prince Louis at the time.

Kate is renowned for her love of sport, particularly tennis, and in October 2017, she attended a workshop with young children. It looked like the lessons went well as the Duchess high fived one boy!

Kate joined school children at the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre in 2017, and she went in for a high five.

The Duchess was impressed with a young cub scout, who learned how to tie a sling, during her visit to a King's Lynn pack in 2016.

Kate joined in with some festive cheer during a Christmas party at a children's mental health centre in 2015. The Duchess gave one little boy a high five after she told him she was a Chelsea supporter.

The Duchess was spotted giving a high five to one little girl during her tour of New Zealand in 2014. It was the Cambridges' first major tour as parents and an eight-month-old Prince George joined them for the trip.

Kate high fived youngsters in the crowd as she visited Hampshire in 2013. The engagement took place on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's second wedding anniversary and Kate was pregnant with Prince George at the time.
