"In this most challenging year, I hope that today will be a time for the Ukrainian people, both in Ukraine and around the world, to celebrate their culture, history and identity. May we look to better times in the future". She signed off her letter with: "Elizabeth R".

The Queen's message was also shared via Twitter

Royal fans were quick to heap praise on the monarch, with one writing: "Thank you for your support of Ukraine and Ukrainians," whilst a second noted: "God bless the Queen and may Ukraine have peace again."

The Queen has previously shown her support for Ukrainian citizens by donating to a charitable appeal.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) thanked her in March for making a "generous donation" towards its appeal, set up to help civilians affected by the conflict. At the time, the palace declined to disclose the amount given.

In a separate display of solidarity, a photograph was taken during an audience at Windsor Castle with the Queen and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. A large bouquet of blue and yellow flowers, the colours of the Ukrainian flag, could be seen behind the duo.

The subtle gesture was seen by many as a symbol of the Queen's support for the people of Ukraine.

The monarch's touching tribute comes amid her annual Balmoral holiday. She travelled to her Scottish bolthole on 21 July and is likely to stay in Scotland until September/October time before her royal duties resume.

It’s thought that the 96-year-old is currently spending time with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children.

In a video shared to TikTok, Kate was spotted disembarking a commercial flight with two of her children, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four. Prince William reportedly arrived separately alongside Prince George, nine.
