Meghan talks about her first official engagement with the Queen

In 2018, shortly after her wedding, the Duchess carried out her first engagement with the Queen

Meghan said: "I treated her as my husband’s grandma, and knowing that of course there has to be a completely different sense of propriety in public, when you’re sitting and having breakfast to just be able to talk.

"When we got into the car in between engagements she had a blanket and she put it over my knees and we were sitting in this car with this blanket and I thought ‘I recognise and respect and see that you’re the Queen, but in this moment I’m so grateful that there is a grandmother figure because that feels like family’.

"And because I was so so close with my grandmother," Meghan said, adding she had taken care of her grandmother "in her final years".

The Duchess of Sussex added of her engagement with the Queen that it was “such a good day, we laughed”.

Doria Ragland reveals heartbreak over Meghan's suicidal thoughts

"I remember her telling me that she wanted to take her own life, and that really broke my heart," Doria said. "Because I knew that it was bad, but to just constantly picked at by these vultures, just picking away at her spirit, that she would actually think of not wanting to be here, that's not an easy one for a mom to hear."

Doria revealed her heartbreak

Doria added that she felt pain that neither she nor Prince Harry could protect Meghan.

Adding to the conversation, Prince Harry said he was "devastated" by how his wife was feeling.

"I knew she was struggling but I never thought it would get to that stage. I was angry and ashamed.

I dealt with it as institutional Harry, not husband Harry. My royal role took over. I'd been trained to worry more about what people will think. Looking back on it now, I hate myself for it.

"What she needed from me was so much more than I was able to give."

Harry talks fallout with Prince William

Prince Harry admitted that it was "terrifying" to have his brother Prince William "scream and shout" at him during their discussion about Harry and Meghan leaving the royal family.

Speaking in episode five of the docuseries, he said: "It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that simply weren't true... and my grandmother sit there and quietly take it all in.

The family at Archie's christening

"[...] The saddest part of it was this wedge created between myself and my brother so that he's on the institution side, and part of that I get, that's his inheritance. So to some extent, it's already ingrained in him that part of his responsibility is the survivability and continuation of this institution."

He later spoke about a joint statement that was released squashing rumours of William "bullying" Harry and Meghan out of the royal family, but denied having any part of the statement. "I couldn't believe it, no one had asked me permission to put my name to a statement like that. I rang M and I told her and she burst into floods of tears because in 24 hours they were happy to lie to protect my brother, but in three years they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."

Prior to the release of the latest episode, the royal family had maintained a wall of silence surrounding any allegations. And they continue to do so. Asked for a response, both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace declined to comment.

Meghan's comments on her fallout with dad Thomas

Meghan revealed that she and Thomas were close before she married into the royal family, and called the breakdown in their relationship due to the media getting involved. She revealed that the Queen and Prince Charles suggested that the Duchess write her father a letter after she asked them for advice, which ultimately was leaked to the press. "It was very embarrassing for the family," she said. "It was a problem that needed to be solved, and they wanted me to make it stop."

Harry and Meghan reveal what began their exit from royal family

The couple revealed that their decision to sue newspapers for leaking Meghan's letter to Thomas was the beginning of the breakdown of their relationship with the royal family. Meghan said: "Everything changed after that. That litigation was the catalyst, probably, for all of the unravelling."

Prince Harry was stopped from seeing the Queen

Prince Harry revealed that the Queen invited Harry and Meghan to visit her, and stay the night, when they returned from a short trip to Vancouver, but upon their flight home, was told by staff that they absolutely were not allowed to visit her. Harry explained: "I rang her and I said, 'I'm told that you're busy.' She said, 'Yes, I didn't know that I was busy, I am told that I am busy all week,' and I was like, 'Wow.'"

Prince Harry denied that he 'blindsided' the Queen with exit

Harry opened up about the reports at the time that he hadn't informed his family about his decision to leave the family, saying: "This idea that I supposedly blindsided my grandmother. That would never happen, I have so much respect for her."

On their 'cold' reunion with royal family

Meghan and Harry saw the royal family for the first time since announcing their decision to step back at Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Service - and Harry said it looked and felt "cold". He explained: "I felt really distant from the rest of my family which is interesting because so much of how they operate is what it looks like and not what it feels like. But it looked cold, and it also felt cold."

Episode Six

Meghan opens up about her devastating miscarriage

In episode six, Meghan discusses her miscarriage in 2020 and revealed that it occurred the morning after they moved into their new home in Montecito.

The Duchess of Sussex's close friend, actress Abigail Spencer, introduced the heartbreaking moment to viewers. Explaining how she arrived at Meghan's house, she said: "Meghan's standing there waiting for me and I knew something was off," adding: "She's showing me their new home but she says 'I'm having a lot of pain'. She was holding Archie and she just fell to the ground."

Meghan can then be heard saying: "I was pregnant, I really wasn't sleeping and the first morning that we woke up in our new home is when I miscarried."

Harry said he believes Meghan miscarried as a result of their legal case

Harry, who looked visibly emotional, then explained: "I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did. I watched the whole thing. Now, do we absolutely know that the miscarriage was caused by that? Of course we don't."

Harry added: "But bearing in mind the stress that caused, lack of sleep, the timing of the pregnancy and how many weeks she was, I can say from what I saw that miscarriage was created by what they were trying to do to her."

Meghan, who shared the news with the world in a New York Times article titled The Losses We Share, then added: "When I reveal things that are moments of vulnerability when it comes to having a miscarriage and maybe having felt ashamed it's like, 'It's OK, you're human.'

"I could make the choice to never talk about those things, or I could make the choice to say, 'With all the bad that comes with this, the good is being able to help other people.'"

The royal couple made many revelations in the documentary

Harry talks 'Institutional gas lighting' ahead of their Oprah Winfrey interview

Later in the episode, the royal couple discussed their eye-opening televised interview with Oprah Winfrey. But shortly before the interview aired, allegations of bullying from Buckingham Palace staff arose, which the Duchess of Sussex denied.

James Holt, the couple's former spokesperson, said: "The timing of the bullying story has even been admitted by journalists that wrote it, that it was done explicitly because of the Oprah interview."

Harry then speaks further on this, highlighting what he called "institutional gas lighting." After a news report described the tensions between the royal couple and the "men in grey suits," the Duke says: "I can't think what my mum went through all those years ago by herself.

"To see this institutional gaslighting that happens is extraordinary, and that's why everything that has happened to us was always going to happen to us. Because if you speak truth to power, that's how they respond."

Tyler Perry was on hand to help Harry and Meghan

Meghan was a 'crying wreck' on the phone with Tyler Perry

After realising everyone knew where Harry and Meghan were living – while having no security – they decided to move to California, reaching out to actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry in the process.

Meghan can be heard saying: "I was just a wreck, I was just crying and crying. Sometimes it's just easier to open up to someone who knows nothing at all, and that was the moment with me and Tyler."

Tyler then added: "I could hear the fear. It was palpable. I mean, I could hear it. So I asked her what she was afraid of, and I said to her 'Every one of your fears is valid.'"

The couple then moved into Tyler's home in California, with Harry saying: "We were at Tyler's for six weeks and no one knew. My family still thought I was in Canada."

The royal couple were relieved after the legal battle verdict

Meghan and Harry's legal battle took unexpected turns

Throughout episode six, the couple discusses their legal case against Associated Newspapers. Harry and Meghan sued the company, which published the Daily Mail, Mail Online, and Mail on Sunday, for publishing a letter that she had written to her father.

Jenny Afia, the couple's lawyer, appears frequently in the episode and, in one revelation, makes the claim that Jason Knauf, a senior member of Prince William's staff, had given a voluntary witness statement against Meghan with the consent of William.

Jenny says: "Sadly, there's no way he could have done that without the authority of his bosses." Another moment saw Harry and Meghan discussing the revelation in their kitchen as Meghan says to her husband: "It's your brother, I'm not going to say anything about your brother but it's so obvious."

Harry adds: "It's even more obvious that they'll cover it up - this is why I'm now living in another country because the communications teams try to outdo each other." At the end of the episode, a statement on behalf of Jason Knauf denied the claims made in the documentary.

Harry and Meghan were seen packing ahead of their move

Harry talks about tension in the family and returning to the UK

After discussing the death of his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Harry details the time he flew back to the UK to attend Prince Philip's funeral. He admitted it was "hard" going back for the first time since he and Meghan left the royal family, adding it was difficult talking to his father and brother who "very much focused on the same misinterpretation of the whole situation."

Harry added: "None of us wanted to talk about it at my grandfather's funeral but we did." Harry continued: "I've had to make peace with the fact that we're probably never going to get genuine accountability or genuine apology. My wife and I were moving in, we're focused on what's coming next."

Despite stating it was hard, another moment saw Harry admit what he misses about the UK: "I miss the family gatherings at certain times of the year, my friends… I've lost certain friends now."

Meghan adds: "It's amazing how things come full circle that you never think about." Before detailing the speech she gave on the night of their wedding talking about their love story and how "love wins."

Keep coming back for more revelations as they happen... this is what we know from the trailers

Monday's teaser saw Harry claim: "They were happy to lie to protect my brother. They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."

It's not clear as to whom the Duke was referring to, but discrepancies in Netflix's uploads on social media and its website, suggest he may have been talking about the British media.

A second trailer, which landed on Wednesday, saw Meghan's lawyer, Jenny Afia, partner at Schillings Law Firm, claim there was a "war against Meghan".

She added she had "seen evidence of negative briefing from the Palace against Harry and Meghan to suit other people's agendas".

Jenny Afia made claims against the palace in a teaser clip

Meghan herself was seen saying: "You would just see it play out, like a story about someone in the family would pop up for a minute and they'd go, 'We've got to make that go away'."

As she spoke, footage was played of newspaper front pages featuring the headlines, 'Meghan Made Kate Cry' and 'Heir Heads' – about Kate and Meghan's flower girl dress dispute and the Sussexes' use of private planes.

The explosive trailers have certainly divided royal watchers on social media.

The final three episodes air just hours before members of the royal family are set to turn out in force for the Princess of Wales's Christmas Carol Concert at Westminster.

Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have declined to comment so far.
