Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle going to the coronation?

On Sunday 5 March, it was revealed that the monarch had extended the invite to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who reside in Montecito with their two children, Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana. Then, one month later on 12 April, Prince Harry confirmed he would be attending his father's coronation without Meghan.

A statement released by Buckingham Palace read: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.

Why is Meghan not attending the coronation?

King Charles' coronation is taking place on the same day as Prince Archie celebrates his fourth birthday, which is the reason many believe Meghan has chosen to stay in the US with the couple's two children.

There was originally speculation over whether the monarch would extend the invite to his son and daughter-in-law following their ongoing strained relationship.

But in March a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty's office regarding the coronation.

"An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time," they added.

Where will Prince Harry stay for the coronation?

Now that Harry has accepted his initiation, it will be interesting to see where he decides to stay. Earlier this year, the couple hit the headlines after they were formally asked to vacate their UK home, Frogmore Cottage. However, as they were only asked to leave Frogmore Cottage by the summer, it's quite possible Harry may still stay there in May.

Before the couple moved into their marital home, it was converted into a single five-bedroom home. The Windsor property had a whole renovation in 2019 costing the Sovereign Grant a reported £2.4million, which the couple subsequently paid back.

It's situated in front of an incredible lake and near to Grade-II listed Frogmore House, where the royals hosted their wedding reception in May 2018.

Beyond this, The Sunday Times' royal editor Roya Nikkhah has alleged that Prince George is set to have a starring role on his grandfather's big day. Camilla's own grandchildren have been confirmed to play a role, with The Sunday Times reporting that they will hold a canopy over the Queen Consort as she is anointed with holy oil.
