The King and Queen Consort have invited 400 young people representing charitable organisations to watch the coronation service and procession on 6 May.

The guests will have the opportunity to watch the ceremony from St Margaret's Church at Westminster Abbey by kind permission of the Dean and Chapter of Westminster.

Among them will be 200 young people involved with The Prince's Trust, The Prince's Foundation, Barnardo's, The  National Literacy Trust and Ebony Horse Club.

Another 200 young people from the Scout Association, Girlguiding UK, St John Ambulance and the National Citizen Service will attend, having been nominated by the UK Government for their contribution to Coronation day. The four organisations selected are providing stewarding, route lining and first aid services on 6 May across London.

It's a sweet nod to the late Queen Elizabeth, who was the former royal patron of the Scout Association, Girlguiding UK and Barnardo's.

Among them is record-breaker Max Woosey, 13, dubbed "the boy in the tent", who raised more than £750,000 for North Devon Hospice by camping in his garden for three years.

Max, of Braunton, Devon, first pitched his tent in March 2020 with the aim of raising £100, inspired by his neighbour and friend Rick Abbot, who died of cancer in February 2020.

He went on to set a Guinness World Record for the biggest sum raised by camping, with the proceeds paying for 16 community nurses in north Devon.

Invitations to the coronation have also been extended to over 450 British Empire Medal (BEM) recipients in recognition of the contributions made by remarkable volunteers, charity representatives and community champions up and down the country.  The guests will join the congregation at the Abbey on the day.

Many of the BEM recipients attending the coronation were instrumental in providing services and support to their local communities during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

A new portrait of the King and Queen Consort was released earlier this week

Details of the invitees comes after Buckingham Palace shared a new portrait of the couple taken in the blue drawing room, as well as a first look at the ceremony invitation and details about the Pages of Honour.

It was confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales's eldest child, Prince George, nine, will serve as one of his grandfather's Pages, while Camilla has chosen three of her grandsons, as well as family friends.
