The Prince and Princess of Wales had a busy day on Thursday as the royal couple undertook a joint outing to Birmingham where they celebrated the "city's diverse culture and heritage" and met with local business owners.

As they met with members of the public, one of whom was quick to compliment the outfit that Kate was wearing. The member of public called it "beautiful," prompting William, 40, to sweetly respond: "She always looks stunning,"  garnering a few sweet responses from the gathered crowds.

The royal mum-of-three certainly did look beautiful as she took to the streets of Birmingham in a beautiful burgundy midi dress from high street favourite Karen Millen.

Kate, 41, wore her brunette hair loose and long with her signature soft curls, and teamed her look with minimal makeup as usual. Her burgundy dress features a deep-V neckline, nipped-in belted waist and a pleated skirt, which the royal teamed with matching heels.

William's comment came as he also opened up about one of his "biggest regrets" as he met with a young woman who taught at a local dance centre.

"I still wish I'd learned to breakdance," the Prince confessed. "It's one of my greatest regrets, not learning to breakdance when I was young."

William also spoke with Kelvin Osondu, 30, who wrote his first fantasy book at the age of 16.

The Prince, who obtained an A in Geography, a B in Art and a C in Biology at A Level, said: "Kelvin, I need to bottle some of your discipline. There was a moment when I really should have done more work when I was younger – read more books, watched less TV. I'm watching The Recruit on Netflix at the moment."

The most notable part of their day in the West Midlands came when William and Kate visited a family-run restaurant, and the Prince attempted to book a couple in for a table for two.

The Prince and Princess also helped out in the kitchen where they tried their hand at making a roti - a simple flatbread often served with cooked vegetables and curries.

Dhiraj Sharma, who helps run the restaurant which was founded by his parents, Meena and Rakesh, told HELLO!: "When the customers came in, they were absolutely shocked when we told them that Prince William had taken the booking, they had to sit down. They were travelling from London."

Vinay Aggarwal and his wife Ankita Gulati, who made the reservation, honoured their 2.15pm booking, and said they "didn't recognise" William's voice at all.
