Prince Harry and Meghan UK arrival: King Charles breaks cover as Sussexes settle into life in the UK

We're getting ready to bring you the latest live updates as we've got some very, very exciting news just in. 

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to make their return to Britain today, six years after "Megxit" and leaving the UK for a new life in America. 

The BBC is reporting that they will be privately flying in later today on a flight from California. 

The move comes ahead of their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, starting at their new schools in the UK. 

As to where they'll live, or what living back in the UK will look like, much still remains unclear. 

However, we know Harry and Meghan WON'T be working royals, and they'll be living in a non-royal residence outside of London.

We're now hearing that Harry and Meghan have landed in the UK. 

According to The Telegraph, the couple landed at Birmingham Airport on Wednesday lunchtime. 

The airport is close to the Cotswolds, which is one of the areas they could be living.

Hi royal fans! I'm taking over from Eleanor to bring you the latest on the Sussexes' arrival. 

While we wait for more details to emerge, one of the biggest questions surrounding Harry and Meghan's return to the UK with their two kids is where the family will live. 

Harry and Meghan will remain as private individuals and non-working royals, in keeping with the agreement made in 2020. The Sussexes are understood to be living in a non-royal residence outside of London.

While details about their new home are being kept private for security reasons, some reports suggest the Cotswolds could be an option for their new family base. 

Harry and Meghan previously rented a property on the Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire before getting married in 2018. They later called Frogmore Cottage in Windsor home.

Now that he's back on British soil, Harry will be living a lot closer to the royal family.

When he visited the UK last month, Harry, alongside his wife Meghan and their two children, privately reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. 

Harry's father Charles, who was made aware of his son's plans to move back to the UK ahead of time, is said to welcome the opportunity to see more of the Sussexes in a private and personal capacity. 

As for Prince William, it's not known whether Harry will reunite with his estranged brother now that he's back on British soil.

Now that Harry and Meghan are back in the UK, King Charles will have to navigate a new royal dynamic. 

Christmas will be one of the first tests as the last time Harry and Meghan spent the holiday with the royals was in 2018.

After growing up across the pond in America, Lilibet and Archie will now be living in the UK and starting school here soon. 

The kids have relocated in time for the start of school term in September. Archie, seven, will be entering Year 3, and Lilibet, five, will be going into Year 1. Now that they've moved countries, they'll surely be facing a plethora of cultural changes – including their school routine. So, what will their school days look like? 

Consultancy Director at The Good Schools Guide, Grace Moody-Stuart, explains that academically, the UK schooling system is much more "rigorous" than that in the US. 

"It starts early in the morning, and then there's plenty of time for activities, sport, music in the afternoon. The school days are long. Instead of picking up a child at 3:30 pm, which you might do in a primary school, you might be picking them up at 5:00 pm or even 6 pm," she says.

Meghan doesn't appear to have lost her sense of humour as she landed back in the UK with Harry and their children. Before leaving, it appears that the royal's final social media post was about the fate of her beloved chickens, who have been left behind in LA.

HELLO! understands that while the couple's dogs – Pula and Mia – have made the journey with the Sussexes, the chicken flock remained back in Montecito. 

However, this doesn't mean the birds will be going anywhere, as staff will tend to their Montecito home in the family's absence.

The couple landed at Birmingham Airport in the afternoon, and a source has informed the BBC that there was no police presence for when the Sussexes touched down.

Security has been a major driving point for Prince Harry in recent years, with the royal even confessing that he wouldn't let his family come with him to the UK over fears that they could be attacked.

Last year, he made lost a court appeal to challenge his security level, but over the weekend, it was reported that he had made a private plea to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood after he was not made privvy to the findings of a new Ravec report.

As the Duke of Sussex landed back in the UK, King Charles and Queen Camilla confirmed when they would be leaving for their next royal tour. The royal couple will be heading to Antigua and Barbuda in the autumn, before Charles completes a solo trip in Guyana. The monarch will be away from Britain for nine days, being abroad between 27 October and 4 November.

The trip will coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026, and the trip to Guyana will mark 60 years of bilateral relations between the UK and the South American country.

Buckingham Palace said the tour would "celebrate communities, cultures and nature within the Commonwealth family".

The royal family hasn't used its social media pages to welcome Harry and Meghan back to the UK, but that doesn't mean that they've been entirely silent either.

On their social media accounts, Charles and Camilla marked International Dogs Day, sharing a clip of members of the royal family meeting canines during their engagements.

A caption on the post read: "A round of a-paws for our four-legged friends, because today is International Dog Day! From Medical Detection Dogs and Guide Dogs, to dogs on the set of 'Rivals' and in the gardens of Buckingham Palace and Holyroodhouse… Here are just a few of the many wagging tails we’ve met on Royal visits this year."

Although the Duke and Duchess have been known to travel commercially, but for some international flights, the couple opt for a private jet.

The aeroplane is a lavish 12-seater Cessna jet, which can hit speeds of 592mph.

The luxurious vessel reportedly boasts LED lighting with a dimmer switch, on-board wifi and desks for Meghan to work on her As Ever business plans and bathrooms big enough for quick wardrobe changes. 

Prince Harry previously shared a glimpse inside their private jet in Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, which aired in 2022. The spacious plan was big enough to cater to their pet dogs, who had ample space to wander around and cosy up in dog beds.

While it's unlikely that Harry and Meghan will be fully welcomed back into the royal fold, they still have a collection of friends who they will be able to depend on now that they're settling back into the UK.

HELLO! has spoken to royal expert Katie Nicholl, who revealed just some of the friends that the couple can count on following their return, and why Meghan will need to work hard to make new connections.

It's Isabelle here! reporting from a very drizzly summer's day in London. I will be taking you through all the latest royal updates from today.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in the UK on Wednesday, flying into Birmingham Airport from California. 

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enjoy their first 24 hours in the royal's homeland, stick with me as I take you through all the latest updates from their arrival.

I will, of course, be updating you on all the goings on from royals across the globe!

Could Princess Anne's stalwart diplomacy be the key to "saving the Sussexes"?

A month after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reached an arrangement to step back from royal duties, Princess Anne spoke about the younger generation of royals wanting to do things a "new way" when it came to philanthropy. Her thoughts at the time? "Please do not reinvent that particular wheel."
Now, one tall red feather hat and a Frogmore Cottage eviction she reportedly played a role in later, the Princess Royal's nephew and his family are back in the UK for an extended stay. So, will the no-nonsense royal welcome the Sussexes with open arms?

Just a day after the couple arrived in the UK, and Harry and Meghan have alreadfy shared a statement, although it's not about their new life. After Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram,  agreed to pay up to £13 billion to settle a child harm lawsuit, the pair accused the firm of attempting to avoid a new trial.

In a lengthy statement, they said: "The historic trial against Meta over claims that its products endanger children has resulted in a settlement in which they will pay up to $17.1 billion. The settlement requires Meta to pay financial penalties for violating federal child privacy and states' consumer protection laws.

"By choosing to settle, the company paid to avoid yet another trial outcome that would force it into accountability. Because of the data-extraction business model Meta has used on our children and all users for years, it has more than the means to pay this settlement. Reports estimate Meta will make the equivalent of the $17 billion payout back in profit in the next 30 days.

"Alongside the settlement, Meta announced it will be making significant product changes for teens, including restricting platform use between 12 am and 6 am, stopping notifications during school hours, an optional chronological feed (as opposed to one based on algorithmically recommended interest-based content), and banning features that negatively impact mental health like beauty filters. Restricting teens' time on the platforms, if successfully enforced, would hit the company's business model, which relies on users spending as much time on the app as possible to see ads and generate data for advertisers.

"Meta's statement about these changes suggests it worked with 52 state attorneys to reach these product decisions, showing how unanimous the desire for change is across the United States. Their statement also emphasizes empowering parents with additional controls, which will need to be tested for effectiveness given Meta's history of placing responsibility for safety solely on parents.

"The statement fails to apologize or mention the billions it will pay out because of claims brought by the 29-state coalition and the 47 states plus the District of Columbia and territories included in the settlement. Their statement calls on YouTube and TikTok to join them in making similar design changes, and this agreement may also affect similar claims against other social media giants like Snap, YouTube, and TikTok.

"We hope it quickly sparks change from other tech leaders across the industry.

"This result clearly signals that Meta and social media companies understand they are up against an immovable force of parents, survivors, and advocates who will not back down until we see change in how our young people interact with online spaces. It is a positive step for everyone advocating for safer online spaces and at the same time – far from the end of the journey to a better online world.

"We celebrate with the parent and youth partners, legal and policy experts, and allies everywhere fighting for accountability. As always, we stand with them as they seek justice going forward, ensuring child online safety is built into any online space where our young people spend time."

Over in Norway, King Harald's health is in an "extremely serious" condition, according to the latest update from the Palace.

The Norwegian King, 89, was hospitalised last week with a rare blood condition called haemolytic anaemia, which is when the red blood cells are destroyed faster than the body can replace them with new blood. The Norwegian Palace issued an update on his health on Thursday, which read: "His Majesty the King's health condition is extremely serious."

His son, Crown Prince Haakon, who has been acting as regent, and his wife, Queen Sonja, have now cancelled all royal engagements. Members of the monarch's family have gathered by his bedside in Oslo, with Haakon and his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, pictured in the car arriving at the hospital on 27 August. 

Following the news, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said in a comment to French news agency AFP: "I stand together with the entire country as we now send our warmest thoughts to the king and the rest of the royal family."

"I am confident that the king is being well taken care of, and that he is receiving good and compassionate treatment."

His Majesty The King, as Head of the Commonwealth, will receive the Pakistan Men’s Test Cricket Team for an audience in the gardens of Clarence House, in the break between the second and third test matches hosted in England over the summer.

Charles previously met with the Pakistan team in 2007, when he was the Prince of Wales, ahead of the Pakistan v India Future Friendship Cup at Citylets Titwood cricket ground in Glasgow.

News of the King's London meeting comes just hours after it was revealed Charles and Camilla will be attending a royal tour of Antigua and Barbuda later this year ahead of their attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Their royal tour will take place from Tuesday, 27 October to Wednesday, 4 November 2026.

Before the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, the King will undertake a Royal Visit to The Bahamas, where he is also Head of State. 

Charles will then make a state visit to Guyana, at the invitation of the President of Guyana and at the request of the UK Government. The visit will mark 60 years of bilateral relations between the UK and Guyana. 

Their Majesties' Autumn Tour will celebrate communities, cultures and nature within the Commonwealth family.

The King said he and the Queen were “heartbroken” and sent their “most profound sympathy” to those affected by the “devastating” flash floods in Nepal where dozens of British nationals are among the hundreds missing and feared dead.

Charles' message was shared on the official social media channels for the British Royal Family.

The full message read: "My wife and I are heartbroken to hear of the devastating flooding that has struck the Nepal-China border. Many in the United Kingdom have strong, deep and personal ties to this part of the world. We send our most profound sympathy to all those who have so tragically lost their loved ones and we feel deeply for the many families awaiting anxiously the news of friends and relations.

The King continued: "Our hearts go out also to the families of all the police and Armed Forces personnel who lost their lives while carrying out their courageous duty in the service of others and we give our deepest thanks to those who have responded so selflessly in undertaking rescue efforts. Our special thoughts and prayers remain with all those affected and, as always, the United Kingdom stands ready to help support those in need. Charles R."

King Charles has been photographed driving at Balmoral.

During his drive, the Monarch was smartly dressed wearing a crisp checked shirt and beige overcoat. 

The photos come as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are settling into their new home in the UK following their arrival at Birmingham aArport on Wednesday.

One of the surefire ways to know that the summer holidays are coming to an end is when the royals start leaving Balmoral, their Scottish abode that they normally reside in over the break.

And HELLO! understands that the Wales family are no longer in Balmoral, with the family leaving earlier in the week, returning home on a commercial flight.

It will be a busy few days for the Wales family as they prepare to send their children back to school next week. While Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will be returning to Lambrook, it'll be an all-new adventure for Prince George, who will be starting at Eton College.

William and Kate arrived in Balmoral last week, around the same time that William's estranged brother, Prince Harry, confirmed that he would be moving back to the UK with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have expressed their shock at the flash floods in Nepal, where dozens of British nationals are among the hundreds missing and feared dead.  

In a statement released on Thursday, they said: "We are thinking of everyone caught up in this terrible disaster."

It comes just hours after the King said he and the Queen were "heartbroken" and sent their "most profound sympathy" to those affected by the "devastating" flash floods in Nepal.

In a message signed with their personal initials and shared on social media, Prince William And Kate said: "The scale of the devastation along the Nepal-China border is shocking. We are thinking of everyone caught up in this terrible disaster.

"Our thoughts are especially with the families facing an unbearable wait for news and with the communities confronting such immense loss.

"We are incredibly grateful to all those working in such dangerous conditions to rescue people and support those affected."

Prince William, Kate and their three children departed Balmoral Castle on Thursday after a week's stay, HELLO! confirmed. 

 The Duke of Sussex recently described himself on Joe Marler's podcast, Joe Marler Will See You, as a "full-time dad" to his and Meghan's kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Now back in the UK, friends of the royal have revealed to HELLO! what the dad of two will be up to on British soil. 

"It’ll be the same as what he’s been doing in California," a friend tells HELLO!.

"When the kids are at school, he’ll be on calls and having meetings with his patronages and organisations, but some of those can now be face-to-face."
