As a shopping editor who has worked across beauty for years, I like to think I’ve got my core beauty products sorted – and two of those are from Beauty Pie (the Arch-Ology 2-in-1 Clear Brow Gel and Youthbomb 360 Body Repair, FYI). And my love for the luxury beauty members club has just grown thanks to its latest launch with world-class makeup artist Sam Chapman – and I got to try a few products from the range.
Who is Sam Chapman?
If you’re not already following makeup artist Sam Chapman on Instagram, hit the follow button; I’m a massive fan of her beauty tips which are informative, and easy to follow. This might be why the mash-up between Sam’s skills and Beauty Pie’s brilliant products was a match made in heaven, and something I had to try. The collection is also really well priced, ranging between £10-£14 for those with a Beauty Pie membership.
Sam Chapman & Beauty Pie: What's the hype?
Beauty fans have been going wild about this new collaboration, with some of the nine products already sold out! I was lucky enough to be sent a selection of products from collection, and in the name of beauty, have tried and tested them. Here’s what I thought of the products I was sent to review.
Sam Chapman & Beauty Pie Sheen Machine Eye Paint
My eye makeup go-to is a slick of eyeliner and a quick brush of mascara, because I’ve always found eyeshadows either crease in my eyelids or don’t last. When I do dabble in an eyeshadow, it’s usually in liquid form and so these Eye Paints, coming from the makeup queen herself, surely, would be perfect? The colours look quite unassuming in the tube, but when I applied them, they came to life.
The eye paints are metallic, rather than sparkly or shimmery, and delightfully thick when applied. I like that there are three classic shades, all super wearable. I was sent the Omni shade, a copper with warm tones, and Verona, a silvery taupe, and both are far thicker a shade than you’d think. Perfect for smudging, you don’t need a lot to cover your eyelid and I found it easier to apply with my fingertip and lightly blend onto my eyelid.
What’s great is that you can amp up the look by applying more, but can equally keep it quite a light application by smudging a lot. I’d say the extreme plus of these is their staying power. When I say they don’t budge, they don’t – I used a light application of Omni for a mum’s night out and it stayed the entire night. Didn’t crease, didn’t slowly melt off, it was amazing.
Sam Chapman & Beauty Pie The Blushy Lip & Cheek Tint
A chubby cheek colour product is one of my favourite things, but at first glance I wasn’t completely convinced about this. It looks an extremely dark brown in the tube, but when you swipe? Well hello, it’s a dewy dream. I’ve been forever hunting a dewy bronzer and never had much luck – this seems to marry an illuminator and a bronzer in one. Thanks Sam.
It’s quite sheer, and takes a few swipes to get a deeper colour but I can see myself using this in the summer for a light colour. The packaging is bag-friendly too; it’s the sort of product you can chuck in your bag and not worry about it getting damaged.
Sam Chapman & Beauty Pie Wondercolour Soft Eyeshadow Crayon
This is described as a “one sweep and you’re done” smudgy eye crayon and I can confirm that it’s exactly that. It’s a brilliant soft brown, and applies a solid line in one swipe. It smudges brilliantly with a hard eyeshadow brush, but I actually used it as a softer alternative to a black eyeliner.
Again, the no budge rule applies and it stays pretty much put. Another chubby, chunky product too, not ideal if you want a thin eyeliner line but I managed to make it work.
Sam Chapman & Beauty Pie Wondercolour Soft Matte Liquid Lipstick
Seeing Sam Chapman wearing the red shade, Pops (in the main picture, which has already sold out), of this, makes me want to be the type of woman who wears a red lip on the school run. I’m not, but I could be persuaded to wear the nude Jude shade, as it’s like a souped-up version of my own lip colour.
These are classed as matte, and I can confirm they are. And they’ve not succumbed to the dryness of other matte lipsticks, when I wore the Jude lipstick I found my lips were no less dry than they were without it on. Again, staying power is the superpower of these liquid lipsticks, they do not budge an inch. As lipsticks go, they’re super wearable and creamy, but not for the those looking for a subtle lip as they do deliver a punch of colour.
My final verdict
The capsule edit is just about spot on for what you’d expect from someone who knows her stuff. My favourite product is the Lip & Cheek Tint, as it’s the most wearable of the collection and something I’ve not personally found anywhere else in the beauty space. Honestly for the Beauty Pie member prices, they’re incredible quality and actually deliver what they promise.
It’s a small collection, nine pieces in total, but that’s one of the things I love about the range – everything is usable, and well thought out, from the packaging to the colours available. I think you’ll find they fill some of the gaps you might have in your current makeup.
