Dick began his acting career on Broadway by appearing as Albert Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie, for which he won a Tony Award in 1961. He became most known for the Dick Van Dyke Show, which ran from 1961-1966, making him a household name. He's gone on to star in a series of movie musicals, including "Bye Bye Birdie" (1963), "Mary Poppins" (1964) and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (1968). His participation in Hollywood and show business led him to win a Golden Globe Award and six Emmys.

 In 1948, Dick married his first wife, Margerie Willett, with whom he had four children: Christian, Barry, Stacy and Carrie Beth. After their divorce in 1984, he then went on to have two other relationships, one with his longtime companion Michelle Triola Marvin beginning in 1976, and the other with the make-up artist Arlene Silver in 2012.
