Yachting kings Juan Carlos and Harald go head to head in Spain

Royal yachting enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike flocked to the eastern coast of Spain this weekend as Spanish King Juan Carlos and King Harald V of Norway took to the sea for the region's Queen's Cup.

King Juan Carlos – whose children Crown Prince Felipe and Infanta Christina also participated – finished in fourth place in the competition, wrapping up a weekend in which he enjoyed three days of his favourite sport under the city of Valencia's clear and sunny skies.

Fellow monarch King Harald of Norway – who was thrilled this week to participate in the baptism of his first grandchild, Maud Angelica, just days before his son Crown Prince Haakon announced his pending fatherhood – seemed equally relaxed and happy at the wheel of his vessel, the Fram XV.

The king, who missed out on his wife Queen Sonja's 66th birthday celebrations over the weekend, is now set to return to Norway where he'll rejoin his growing family. Then, King Harald plans to fly to Sweden for the funeral of his uncle, Prince Carl Bernadotte, who passed away just over a week ago aged 92.
