Queen Margrethe of Denmark and her husband Prince Henrik cruised into the northern German town of Lubeck on Friday, taking a break from their summer holidays for a one-day official visit.
Dressed in a white suit and colourful blue hat, the 63-year-old monarch met with German president Johannes Rau and his wife Christina, not long after disembarking from the royal yacht, Dannebrog. On the quick jaunt to open a local exhibition, Time Of The Danes In Lubeck, the royal couple didn't have much time to enjoy the sights of the 12th-century port city. Scenic Lubeck, once the major trading centre for northern Europe, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987.
Meanwhile, the queen, who is also an acclaimed artist, will be displaying a collection of her own work in a new Danish exhibition, The Soul Of The Landscape, at Odense's Kunsthallen Brandts Klaedefabrik Museum. The show, which comprises oil paintings, watercolours, and drawings, opens on September 14 and runs through January 18, 2004.
