Kevin Costner and his wife of ten days, Christine, are spending a sporting honeymoon in Scotland, taking in some golf at the world famous Royal and Ancient Course in St Andrews.
The happy couple, who tied the knot in Aspen just over a week ago, hit the Old Course in the run-up to the Dunhill Links Championship pro golf tournament, set to kick off on Thursday in the scenic Fife coastal town.
But the movie star and his pretty blonde bride aren't the first famous names to tee off at the St Andrews tournament, which in the past has played host to numerous amateurs better known for their glamorous careers than for their golfing prowess.
Over the years, Dunhill competitors have included Sean Connery, Samuel L Jackson, Hugh Grant, Jodie Kidd, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And the town's most famous resident, St Andrews university student Prince William, is also no stranger to the event, having been seen amongst the spectators at previous competitions.
Picturesque St Andrews, where local beaches were used in the 1981 film Chariots Of Fire, is a haven for golf fans, famous and non-famous alike. There are no fewer than eight courses in and around the town, and over 25 within half an hour's drive.
The Dunhill Championship, initiated as a celebration of links golf, is played over three of the world’s best known courses: The Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie, and the Kingsbarns Golf Links.
This year's competition begins on Thursday, and ends on Sunday, October 10.
