Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary - chosen as 2004’s Most Elegant Woman by hellomagazine.com readers - joined Queen Margrethe, Prince Joachim and a A-list of Danish notables for an evening of song and dance at the exclusive grand opening ceremonies of Denmark’s first opera house.
With Mary dazzling in a glittering black top and heavily-jewelled earrings, the young royals were officially welcomed by Denmark's wealthiest man Maersk McKinney Moller, who was responsible for financing the construction of the edifice. Prior to being entertained by some 400 singers, dancers and actors, the couple chatted with the former king and queen of Greece, Constantine and his Danish-born wife Anne-Marie.
The royals then enjoyed a performance of various works by Verdi, Puccini and Danish composers Carl Nielsen and Poul Ruders. The evening concluded with the crown prince and princess leading the crowd in a standing ovation honouring both the performers and the new home of the Royal Danish Opera.
