Football ace Ashley Cole and his new fiancée Cheryl Tweedy have been celebrating their engagement with a break in sun-drenched Marbella. The glamorous couple jetted out to the Spanish resort just after going public with their plans to become man and wife.
It was just a few days ago, during another holiday in Dubai, that Ashley got down on bended knee and proposed to the Girls Aloud singer. Once the pair had returned to England to share the happy news with their friends and loved-ones, they obviously decided another luxury getaway was in order.
Located just down the coast from the city of Malaga, Marbella is regarded as the Costa del Sol's most upmarket destination. It has for years been a favourite with the international jet-set, though more affordable accommodation can also be found alongside the luxurious developments that line its famous beaches.
And it has more to offer than just sand and sun, because the cobbled streets of the old town are equally delightful. When the night falls Marbella's picturesque "Patio de los Naranjos" square makes for an ideal spot from which to go exploring the town's many bars and cafes.
The couple, who have been dubbed Britain's 'new Posh and Becks', clearly thought it would make for the ideal romantic getaway. "Everything is perfect with Ashley - it's quite scary how good it all is," said Cheryl recently. "And I think it's quite sweet that people call us the new Posh and Becks – I really don't have a problem with it at all."
