With even the top fashion designers themselves disagreeing on whether next year's colours will be predominantly muted or vivid, it's a great time to take control of your own palette and mix and match from the huge range of possibilities on offer. And if you're thinking of a winter getaway in the sun now that the summer holidays are just a fading tan in the mirror, you can get a jump on the rest of the crowd by checking out the swimwear at Milan Fashion Week.
There really is something for everyone. Fashionistas may be complaining that there's no dramatic new statement on the catwalks, but that translates into lots of choice for those of us wanting to make our own statement.
Exhibitionists will be pleased to see skimpy little bikinis screaming 'look at me' in mouth-watering colours, while one-piece fans have some rich and elegant shades to choose from.
Many of the swimsuits around offer cute ruffles, coyly-placed flowers or striking striped finishes, and if you do hanker after that must-have look, there are plenty of spray-on shorts topped off with cowgirl hats too.
