Where do you head to escape winter skies if you're rich and über-famous? The answer is, of course, the Caribbean island of St Barts. After R&B star Usher was recently spotted there catching some rays, it seems that the world and his wife, or more precisely his girlfriend, have been hot-footing it to the former French colony.

This week it was the turn of Hollywood couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn to drop anchor in the West Indies resort. At 60 the Private Benjamin star still has the girlish charm which propelled her to fame four decades ago.

Looking as fresh and as cool as the drink in her hand, the yoga enthusiast seemed happy to lounge on their yacht as Kurt, her partner of 21 years, got ready for a spot of jet ski action. "Age seems to have no effect on her," commented an onlooker.

Other water babies included funnyman Steve Martin also on a break on the island with a lithe lady friend, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, who chose to chill out with two attractive female companions.

With its blend of European flair and Caribbean flavour, the eight-mile tropical isle has long been a popular destination for the glitterati - Uma Thurman, Beyonce and boyfriend Jay-Z are all regulars. The high-profile visitors are drawn by St Barts' astonishing views, warm turquoise waters and intimate boutique hotels.

And when the sun-worshippers are done with lazing on the beach, there's always time for a spot of lunch in one of the many haute cuisine restaurants that dot the capital Gustavia.
