Dubrovnik has become something of an A-list destination since a stream of Hollywood royalty discovered its pristine shores. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are just the latest in a long line of Tinseltown sightseers to visit the walled city and wander the cobbled streets of the charming Old Town. The celebrity pair have been cruising the Adriatic on a luxury yacht and couldn't resist a day trip inland. Catherine was the epitome of jet-set chic in a wide-brimmed sunhat and white dress as she recorded memories of their visit on her camera. Meanwhile husband Michael was left carrying the bags after the couple snapped up some hand-embroidered tablecloths at a local shop.
The Mask Of Zorro actress might also have considered dropping by the Ronchi Hat Factory, to update her sun hat collection. Dating back to 1858, the establishment offers a great collection of stylish hand-made headgear. Her husband, however, may well have been more interested in a different kind of souvenir such as those on offer at Vina Milicic, where wine-lovers can buy superb Croatian vintages.
When it came to choosing a lunchtime dining spot Michael and Catherine opted for one of the town's best fresh seafood eateries. These include the Lokanda Peskarija and the Kamenice, both of which have outdoor terraces where diners can feast on mussels and calamari in a balmy Mediterranean setting.
For fantastic views pay a small admission charge and take a stroll along the city's walls, where you can gaze out across the ochre rooftops to the glittering sea beyond.
Those who fancy checking out some of the world's most impressive yachts should head for the port where the jet-set moor their fabulous floating palaces. Apart from bustling marinas, the stunning coastline also offers pristine sandy beaches and the secluded Lapad peninsula, popular with local sunbathers.
