The Royal Palm is part of the Beachcomber chain, which owns a number of luxury resorts in paradisiacal locations around the Indian Ocean; it is also a member of the group 'The Leading Hotels of the World'. It is one of those little havens of calm where guests can give themselves up to pleasure, whether it's simply sunbathing on the beach, dining by candlelight, taking a drive in one the hotel's Rolls Royces, or engaging in rather more active and adventurous pursuits, such as diving among coral reefs, or setting off inland to discover the exotic landscapes of the interior of this volcanic island, home to tea and sugar cane plantations.

The hotel facilities offer pure luxury: all suites are sea-facing and the terraces look out towards the ocean and the tiny, far-off islets of Plate, Coin-de-Mire and Gabriel. The rooms are spacious and elegant with an oriental touch to the decor. All the suites are perfectly equipped and have bathrooms with shower and separate toilet; all have internet connection and guests are greeted with a tray of tropical fruit and a bottle of champagne. The Royal Suite is the most desirable, built on split levels with a total surface area of 300 square metres; the upper level features a bedroom equipped with private hammam and the large, ground-level living room opens on to a wooden deck area with private swimming pool and gazebo.

The Spa by Clarins is worthy of special mention, offering as it does a wide range of beauty treatments and oriental-style massage. Its architecture, stunning views and contemporary decor make it one of the most spectacular facilities on the whole island; the treatment and relaxation rooms are set in a verdant garden dotted with pools and fountains. The full area of  2,080 square metres, where boundaries blur between the thatched cabins and the natural setting, allows plenty of room to offer guests personalised treatments with specialisation in oriental techniques including reiki, shiatsu, ayurvedic, Thai and hot stone massage.
