Bright colours, powerful forms and a wide range of abstract art await the visitor to the Frieder Burda museum in Baden-Baden, Germany, as it hosts an exhibition of the works of Miro until the middle of November. The poetical vision of colour forms the basis for one of the largest and most comprehensive exhibitions of the Catalonian artist, Joan Miro. Around a hundred pieces are on display, including works on paper, ceramics, paintings and sculptures, drawn from noteworthy international museum and private collections.
Commissioned by Jean-Luis Prat, a personal friend of the late artist, the exhibition features pieces drawn from more than 30 different collections, including the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Beyeler Foundation in Riehen, the art museums of Basel and Bern, the Phillips collection in Washington and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. Also on display are works from the Joan Miro Foundations of Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca, as well as some pieces belonging to the family, making it a rare treat for fans of the artist's work.
Miro is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. The exhibition reviews six decades of his creative oeuvre that embodies symbolic motifs and recurring characters and transports the viewer into a rich world of dreams.
In addition to the artist's works, the museum display includes a number of informative texts and a series of historic photographs which explain the main turning points in the career of Miro, an artist who said of himself that he had "opened a door to a different future, without heresy or fanaticism."
