Located in an unmatchable setting on the banks of the Waikato River, whose forceful waters flow towards the amazing Huka Falls, perhaps it would be more surprising if Huka Lodge had not become a magnet for travellers seeking an exclusive retreat in New Zealand.

The Waikato may not be the only river in the vicinity, but thanks to its trout-filled waters it attracts fishing enthusiasts from around the world. And the glorious natural environment of the surrounding area draws other sportsmen, too: windsurfers, golfers, equestrians... as well as those seeking such heady experiences as scenic helicopter flights over the Kaimanawa Mountains or sailing on Lake Taupo. And just at the moment, gastronomes have an added incentive to visit, as, until late September, the Lodge is hosting the cuisine of Australia's top chefs, accompanied by fine wines from New Zealand.

The main accommodation of the lodge comprises 18 Junior Lodge Suites and one Lodge Suite; all simply, but tastefully, furnished, they open onto the lush greenery of the riverbank, and blend natural beauty with style and elegance. In addition there are two independent cottages, the Alan Pye Cottage, named for the Irishman who established the Huka Lodge, and the Owner's Cottage. Almost completely hidden from view, the latter combines total independence and privacy with access to all the amenities and services of the Lodge.
