Thailand: The best island escapes

October 22, 2012

With infinite white beaches, pristine shores and forested coastlines laiden with palm trees, who wouldn't want to explore the wonders of these mystical islands.Whether it's experiencing an open tuk tuk or the aquatic life, braving the waves in a long tail boat in Rawai or relaxing by the crystalline blue waters, Thailand's overwhelming travel opportunities earn its glowing reputation and make it well worth the 6,000 mile trip.

Escape the crowds of hectic full moon parties in Koh Phangan and busy Bangkok mayhem to experience the bliss of Thailand's surrounding exotic islands. We travel to some of the most amazing corners of paradise that Thailand has to offer in the Gulf of Siam and the Andaman Sea.

Phuket Located in the Andaman sea, Thailand’s largest and arguably most popular island, Phuket, is home to the finest luxury hotels, ultimate dining experiences with world class seafood restaurants and picture postcard beaches.Despite being heavily commercialised over recent years, Phuket island known as the 'pearl of the south,' still bares witness to extraordinary unspoiled scenic landscapes. However, avoid Patong, Kata and Karon if you seek relaxation and a more peaceful holiday experience.North of Phuket and definitely worth a trip is Phang Nga. Decorated with limestone outcrops, this is the location associated with the James Bond scene in The Man with the Golden Gun. And of course, another Bond landmark is Ko Tapu in Khao Phing Kan island.

Phi Phi Islands With close proximity to Phuket, the Phi Phi islands are easily accessible and lure in an impressive amount of visitors, especially after the filming of The Beach, starring Leonardo Di Caprio. Maya Bay, featured in the film, is as beautiful as it gets, where coastal views are simply unparalleled.Swim in nature's largest pool, Pileh Lagoon. Try shallow water snorkelling in the clearest waters and for a fun family trip, visit the Monkey Island.

Ko Samui Having recently transformed from a backpackers delight into an international luxury resort, Ko Samui's vibrant atmosphere is very popular for its bar scenes, nightlife and crescent shaped beach with turquoise waters. Be sure to visit the Angthong National Marine park where you can go elephant trekking. The Big Buddha beach, or Bang Rak, takes its name from the 12-metre tall statue of The Lord Buddha which sits atop a small hill on the island of Koh Farn at the western end of the beach. Head here for a moment of tranquility, or to visit the temple which attracts both tourists and pilgirms from all over the world.

Koh Lanta Slightly off the beaten track and a little known treasure, Koh Lanta is found on the south-western town of Krabi. Surrounded by mountainous views and broad deserted beaches, Koh Lanta's less populated haven is the perfect place for a tranquil family escape getaway.Head to the the sparsely populated islands of Koh Rok Nok and Rok Nai for spotless sandy beaches and the chance to snorkle with Hawksbill turtles.
