Set in 33 acres of beautiful woodland with stunning views of the surrounding countryside, Dartmoor Zoo is a unique, family owned zoo with a fantastic collection of animals including the widest variety of big cats in the south west of England. Having bought the zoo in 2006, Ben Mee wrote a book about the experience which was made into the Hollywood film. Hidden in Devon's back lanes you will find more than 200 animals at home, including tigers, lions, jaguar, lynx and cheetah, bears and wolves. A perfect family day trip with a Hollywood edge... 

Legoland, WindsorAngelina Jolie took her children here last year, and more recently Dancing on Ice's Jason Gardiner and Charlie Brooks have been been spotted at the Windosr resort. Ideal for a family day out, especially for younger children, this Lego-themed theme park contains a host of wonderful attractions that will keep the little ones entertained, from Lego miniland, a model village which includes intricate, true-to-life models of landmarks and scenes from around the world made from millions of genuine Lego bricks including a Star Wars miniworld, to a driving school, roller coasters, and even a fun-based learning centre for a spot of education.

If you would like to see more than the zoo's pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang, both nine years old, there are hundreds more animals to be seen, including chimpanzees, squirrel monkeys, bears and exotic Asian golden cats and lions. Edinburgh Zoo's famous penguin parade is also set to make a return following a £750,000 refurbishment of the animals' enclosure.
