Prince William and Kate Middleton stay in same luxury legendary hotel as Princess Diana

December 5, 2014

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, are set to go on their first ever trip to New York City on Sunday, when the hugely popular British royal couple will take the swanky Carlyle Hotel on Upper Madison Avenue, Manhattan, as their base for the duration of the three-day whistle-stop tour.

Prince William and Kate will visit New York for the first time on Sunday 7 December

William and Duchess Kate, whose only previous visit to the US was a brief stop in Los Angeles at the end of their post-wedding tour of Canada, have opted for the same luxury residence where William's mother Princess Diana liked to stay on her visits to the Big Apple. The beautiful royal stayed there when she first wowed New York in the 1980s and the hotel then became her residence whenever she visited the city. William's father Prince Charles has also stayed in the hotel over the years.

The New York landmark also has a long-standing history of hosting A-listers. Stars including Victoria BeckhamMick Jagger and Tom Cruise have all stayed there and it was also most recently the home of Broadway legend Elaine Strich. Every American president since Harry S. Truman has visited the swish Art Deco establishment and President John F. Kennedy maintained a suite in the towers. In the hotel's famous Café Carlyle, renowned film director Woody Allen plays clarinet every Monday night with the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band. The royal couple could even listen to him play on Monday 8 December, should their itinerary permit.

When William and Kate, who is currently around five months pregnant, aren't relaxing in their luxurious surroundings complete with stunning vistas of Central Park and the New York skyline, they will be on their various engagements, which include seeing a Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers NBA match and a celebrity-studded reception and dinner in the Metropolitan Museum of Art to raise funds for St Andrews University, where William and then-Kate Middleton first met. William will also take a trip to Washington, D.C. for a day.
