Kim and Khloé Kardashian's travel diary as they explore Armenia

April 13, 2015

Kim Kardashian made a once-in-a-lifetime journey to her homeland Armenia last week to explore her roots. Accompanied by her sister Khloé Kardashian, rapper husband Kanye West and daughter North West, the reality TV star was warmly welcomed for her eight-day stay, which saw the famous family meet the country's prime minister, visit historical monuments, as well as Kanye perform a surprise concert for locals.

A glimpse at Kim and Khloé's social media accounts is enough to see that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars had a wonderful stay as they explored their ancestry. After they'd settled into the Armenian capital Yerevan, the famous family visited the Mother Armenia statue, a memorial commemorating the victims of the Armenian genocide.

Khloé wrote alongside a photograph of the sisters with one of their cousins, who joined them for much of their visit: "Visiting the Mother Armenia statue today in Yerevan. The Mother Armenia statue symbolizes peace through strength. It can remind viewers of some of the prominent female figures in Armenian history. Who took up arms to help their husbands in their clashes with Turkish troops and Kurdish irregulars. I am woman hear me roar! Blessed to be here!!!"Kim and Khloé also got to meet none other than the current Armenian Prime Minister, Hovik Abrahamyan, on Thursday. "He expressed how proud they are that we are proud Armenians and we have not forgotten our roots!" tweeted Kim alongside snaps of the reality TV stars sitting with cousins Kourtni and Kara across from the PM and members of his cabinet.

On Saturday the fashionistas left the capital for the historical town of Gyumri, where Armenian records suggest that ancestors of the Kardashian family lived, and where the Kardashian sisters explored the remains of their long-abandoned ancestral home. To complete their unforgettable stay, rapper Kanye decided to perform a free concert at midnight on their last night. His proud wife Kim posted snaps on Twitter of the delighted crowds, as well as of her other half singing in Swan Lake. The trip, which is being documented for the next season of KUWTK, comes ahead of the 100th anniversary of the tragic genocide on 24 April. Khloé and Kim's late father, lawyer Robert Kardashian was a third-generation Armenian American.
