February 16, 2017

When you think of holidays, images of white sandy beaches, crystal blue waters, exotic wildlife and hidden city treasure troves come to mind. For most of us, an exciting break usually means jetsetting off abroad and escaping the gloomy British weather – but the UK actually boasts some incredibly beautiful locations where you can have a wanderlust-inducing experience without breaking the bank. New research carried out by Hampton by Hilton has unearthed five stunning UK destinations – and when they showed a group of Brits photos, 76 per cent of those surveyed misidentified them as being located abroad. We take a look at these must-visit havens, and find out why they’re ideal for a staycation sure to give your friends major holiday envy.

Can you guess where they are? Find out the answers below...

Where it actually is: Dorset! These crystalline waters, impressive cliffs and colourful flowers make up Lulworth Cove, a popular tourist hotspot for those making the most of the British summer. It’s not just the sandy beach and breathtaking views which attract holidaymakers; adventurers also explore the World Heritage site where dinosaur fossils have been discovered in recent decades.

Climb up the central tower for jaw-dropping views of the landscape, or go underground and explore the Undercroft, a new project taking you on a journey through some of the biggest moments in York’s history. Bookworms will also want to stop off in the Old Palace where hundreds of books line the impressive shelves.

MYSTERY LOCATION FIVE

Where Brits guessed this is: 37 per cent thought this was in Scotland, while others tipped New Zealand and Canada to be the home of this awe-inspiring lake.
