Sir Rod Stewart and wife Penny Lancaster enjoy romantic getaway to Abu Dhabi

March 3, 2017

When you're a world-famous rock star, finding somewhere secluded and peaceful for a romantic getaway can prove tricky. Luckily, Sir Rod Stewart found the ultimate solution when he whisked wife Penny Lancaster away for a few days: the desert! The happy couple jet-setted off to Abu Dhabi where they soaked up local culture before adventuring deep into the heart of the United Arab Emirates' desert to explore the breathtaking sand dunes and learn more about the country's traditions. The couple's two sons Alistair, 10, and Aiden, 5, didn't join their parents on the trip.

Penny delighted her Instagram followers by sharing a series of candid snaps from her sun-soaked getaway. One photo sees them looking as loved-up as ever while they take in the scenery and cuddle up while resting on one of the desert's impressive dunes. "Sandy Afternoon," she simply captioned the photo. Also on the agenda was a stop in a local town, where Penny and Rod chose to get henna tattoos. While Penny opted for an intricate design on her left hand, her husband chose a simpler design, choosing to have the world 'Celtic' inked on his inner arm.

Rod Stewart and wife Penny have been enjoying a trip to Abu Dhabi

A trip to Abu Dhabi wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and the duo were treated to a guided tour of the impressive site. Penny captured a sweet moment of Rod talking to their guide, who revealed that the Mosque's impressive Persian carpet is the "largest handmade rug in the world". The trio also posed for a photo amidst the stunning white-marbled domes. "Enjoyed our day at Abu Dhabi's incredible Mosque. (Rod amused by my new look)," Penny captioned the photo.

It's been a whirlwind few months for Rod, who was bestowed with a knighthood from Prince William in October. After the ceremony, the Forever Young hitmaker told reporters he was on "cloud nine", adding that he and William had spoken briefly about his impressive career. "We talked about music and he said 'It's great that you're still going' and I said: 'I have to – I've got eight children!" Rod revealed. "He congratulated me on my long career, and I said how happy this made me. I just wish my mum and dad had been here to see it."
