High-octane thrills meet old-school glamour in St Moritz, a fairytale winter mecca in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

The Engadin valley is home to masses of snow-sure terrain; serious skiers can take on the quiver-inducing descents on Diavolezza while handsomely groomed Corviglia makes for great carving territory. Magnificent frozen Lake St Moritz, meanwhile, hosts snow polo and ice cricket and the concierge at Suvretta House can arrange high-speed tobogganing at breathtaking Muottas Muragl.

INDULGE:

Achingly elegant Via Serla is just the ticket for some serious retail therapy. The shopping mile features Alpine outposts of luxe brands including Chanel, Cartier, Hermès and Gucci.

TASTE:

Michelin-starred guest chef Mauro Colagrecco dishes up flavour-packed plates at Kulm Country Club's gourmet pop-up until the end of the season. For oysters and impossibly good truffle pizza, make tracks for La Marmite, a sophisticated restaurant atop Corviglia. After dark, hit the legendary King's Club for the ultimate in après-ski.

STAY:

Suvretta House is a beguiling Belle Epoque marvel nestled amid the Upper Engadine valley landscape. It's the only ski-in, ski-out hotel in St Moritz and the interiors are sumptuous and traditional – from the carved oak columns lining the Grand Restaurant to the handsome all-marble en-suites. Start the day with breakfast on your balcony before ascending to the pistes on the private ski lift. With top-notch instructors on hand (just ask for Filippo) you'll be ripping up the slopes in no time. After conquering the snow, head straight to the hotel spa where tired limbs are soothed by nimble-knuckled therapists.
