Why the Lake District is such a popular A-list destination

June 5, 2017

The Lake District is a world away from the red carpets and showbiz parties of London and LA, yet the charming region in northwest England has attracted an impressive roll call of A-list stars... Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were reported to have rented out a waterside lodge there for a family break, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron visited when filming Hollywood blockbuster Snow White and the Huntsman - and the locals in Bowness-on-Windermere will still tell you about the time Taylor Swift and then boyfriend Harry Styles were spotted during a romantic minibreak.

One of the best and most well-known places to stay in the Lake District is Armathwaite Hall. Set in the heart of the beautiful region in 400 acres of parkland, this picturesque, waterside retreat offers a stunning spa – complete with infinity pool – fine dining and luxurious accommodation.

The views are stunning - you can enjoy an uninterrupted view of the length of Bassenthwaite Lake along with private woodland and a deer park. And the property itself is just as impressive – it's a historic country house that still possesses its original charm and character. Expect a open fireplaces, traditional wood panelling and sweeping staircases.

If it's a good spa you're interested in, you're in luck. Spacious and luxurious, it boasts an aroma room, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, swimming pool and the piece de resistance – the infinity pool. Overlooking the ground's expertly manicured gardens, it's a wonderful place to relax and unwind in nature – preferably with a glass of champagne in hand!

As for the food, you have two options – fine dining at the Lake View restaurant or a more relaxed meal at the Courtyard Brasserie. Both serve fantastic, locally sourced food at a reasonable price (the club sandwich at the Brasserie is a must-try!).
