An alternative list of the Wonders of the World has been released based on their popularity on Instagram, and it looks a lot different to the original! Travel website On the Go Tours has compiled a comprehensive list of the top 50 landmarks around the world based on the number of times each destination hashtag was used, and Paris' Eiffel Tower has topped the list.
The hashtag #EiffelTower has been used over 3.4 million times, with the likes of the Victoria's Secret Angels, Jennifer Lopez and Michelle Keegan all sharing their own photos of the iconic tourist destination on Instagram. Two London landmarks make the top five – Big Ben came in second place with over 2.4 million tags, while the London Eye ranked fourth after being mentioned some 1.9 million times on Instagram.

Joining the line-up is the Grand Canyon, a popular US tourist destination frequently visited by stars like Beyoncé and Jay Z, in third place, and the Empire State Building in New York in fifth. The Empire State Building hashtag has been used over 1.5 million times, some of which are likely to have been the celebrities to see their photos in lights on the iconic building to celebrate Harper's Bazaar's 150th anniversary in April.

Also making the top ten are the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, London's Tower Bridge (the third London landmark to make the shortlist), the Statue of Liberty in New York, Barcelona's Sagrada Familia and last but not least, the Colosseum in Rome.
