According to new research from Hotels.com, one in five Brits would definitely like to sleepover in a haunted location, while a third would consider it. If you're one of them, these five spooky hotels will give a whole new meaning to the term 'fright night' this Halloween!

Bourbon Orleans Hotel, New Orleans

Venture to New Orleans for a stay at the iconic Bourbon Orleans Hotel. This hotel, located in the French Quarter, once served as the Orleans Ballroom and Theatre before being converted into a convent in the late 1800s. There are countless stories of haunted rooms and supernatural sightings, so much so that the Bourbon Orleans Hotel now ranks as one of the region's top haunted hotels. A one night stay will cost from £99 per room.

The Mermaid Inn, Rye

Closer to home, the historic Mermaid Inn in Rye, East Sussex is renowned for being haunted, but that hasn't stopped it playing host to a number of famous guests. Prince Edward, the Queen Mother, Johnny Depp and Pierce Brosnan are among the eclectic former guests at this hotel, which dates back to the 12th century. Ballygally Castle, Northern Ireland

For a getaway that will be magical and certainly memorable, Ballygally Castle in Northern Ireland is a must-visit – but it's not for the faint hearted! There are rumoured to be three ghosts that roam around the turrets, with one particular room said to be haunted by the original owner of the castle's wife, Lady Isabella Shaw. Guests who have stayed in this part of the castle have reported hearing her knocking on the door at night. Are you brave enough to spend the night? A room costs from £88 per night.

Toftaholm Herrgård, Sweden

It may look beautiful, in an idyllic location next to Lake Vidostern, but there are said to be many unexplained incidents at Toftaholm Herrgård after dark. This 14th century former country manor is rumoured to be haunted by a young peasant who fell in love with the daughter of the baron, who hung himself when she was forced to marry someone else, and guests have experience everything from strange noises to doors and windows being shut in the morning. A one-night stay will set you back from £99 per room, per night.

Hotel Burchianti, Florence

This boutique hotel is said to be home to a number of trapped spirits and ghosts – with one supernatural being actually captured on camera in one of the rooms. When you're not taking in the haunted atmosphere, guests can explore the original 16th century murals that are on display around the hotel. Book if you dare! Rooms cost from £84 per room, per night.
