The Royal Lancaster Hotel

The views of Hyde Park from the Royal Lancaster are incredible

Conveniently located just behind Lancaster Gate tube, the Royal Lancaster hotel in London boasts views across Hyde Park and London which are literally to die for.

The extravagant yet elegantly-designed interiors make this hotel feel completely luxurious. Corridors of marble, with the contemporary touches of velvet chairs and sofas, and minimalistic brass and white lamps, give plenty to feast your eyes on inside the hotel. But once shown to your room (the park suites are spectacular - the entire width of one side of the hotel with wrap-around windows), the views outside will really take your breath away.

Directly opposite the majestic trees and lakes of Hyde Park, the Royal Lancaster gives you a central London dwelling (just 15 minutes walk to Oxford Street) with the peace and respite of the awe-inspiring royal park right on your doorstep.

Breakfast was befitting of its 5-star status. All the staff at the Royal Lancaster were faultless; present when needed and discrete when not. Breakfast was no exception - no platters remained empty for more than a second or two, and options for all diets were plentiful. The honeycomb in the centre of the breakfast display comes right from the beehives on the roof of the hotel, and the honey theme plays out across the hotel, with delicious honey cocktails giving a sticky nod to the bee farm that can be seen from the bedrooms.

When we visited, Nipa Thai, which gets a great write up, was closed for a short spell, so we didn't get to taste the food from the all-female kitchen. The bar and lounge outside is available for bar meals though, and again the service was great.

But without a doubt, it's the rooms and suites at the hotel - and those spectacular views - that really make this establishment stand out. The space, the peace and the endless vistas create an oasis of calm in the middle of a wonderfully vibrant city.

Rooms can be booked from £295, via booking.com.

Leonardo Royal Hotel

Did you know it's possible to stay in a hotel room with a breathtaking view of the exact cathedral in which King Charles once married Princess Diana?

The hotel is situated just a walk across the river from Tate Modern, National Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe, Borough Market and the London Eye. This luxurious hotel is equipped with an elegant rooftop bar, large swimming pool, five-star spa and offers an exquisite dining experience. Waking up in a beautiful, modern room to the views of the sun shining down the iconic XVI century cathedral is a unique blend of history that Leonardo Royal Hotel St Paul's offers to its guests.

Rooms can be booked from £229, via booking.com.

Best hotels in central London

The Prince Akatoki London, Marble Arch

Inside at The Prince Akatoki

Stepping through the doors of Central London's Japanese hotel The Prince Akatoki is like being transported to another world. The whole space is an oasis of calm, with neutral furnishings, soothing music and staff speaking in hushed tones making you feel like you've entered a zen sanctuary.

Once you're cocooned in your room, every single detail has been thought of at this blissful hotel, from traditional Japanese robes to wear, to sumptuous dressing gowns and even a yoga mat if you want to amp up the calming vibes.

The bath has a TV in the wall for a high tech touch, the toiletries are from Malin + Goetz and our suite even had a private outdoor area to relax in. The whole hotel had a whispered luxury, and we felt right at home. Plus, they serve an authentic Japanese breakfast that my friend from Japan said is the best in London - if that's not a seal of approval, I don't know what is.

11 Cadogan Gardens, Chelsea

Nestled in the streets of Chelsea is 11 Cadogan Gardens, a 5-star luxury hotel in prime location. Just minutes from the King’s Road, this is the perfect boutique hotel to unwind after a long day shopping. With Victorian architecture throughout, all 4 rooms, 22 suites and 6 apartments are uniquely decorated. From the moment we checked in, the staff couldn’t have done more to make our stay fantastic. The service was simply sensational, and after checking in, we headed out to enjoy a day of living the Chelsea life. With the Saatchi Gallery, Harrods and the V & A Museum in close proximity, there really is something for everyone.

Located just behind the hotel is Pavilion Road, a pedestrianised mews with restaurants, cafes and boutiques galore. We’d recommend popping into Parlour by Ice Cream Union for a sorbet of dreams. This is also where Han’s Bar & Grill is located, an all-day restaurant serving up an epic breakfast all the way to a delicious dinner. The relaxed establishment is the perfect place to unwind after a long day exploring. We’d recommend the Caesar salad, just be sure to save room for the New York cheesecake. This beautiful hotel has to be at the top of your list - an oasis in the heart of Chelsea.

The Biltmore Hotel, Mayfair

Just a hop, skip and a jump from the action on New Bond Street is this haven of a hotel, situated in the prestigious area of Grosvenor Square.

I visited the stunning hotel on a sunny evening, and after stepping through the understated entrance, was instantly ensconced in the hotel's easy grandeur; it felt like home. Housed in a grand Grade II Georgian listed building, it's a luxurious without being pretentious residence with plush finishes, spacious rooms and views to snap.

The room I stayed in was decorated with dark furnishings and calm colours, and the large, comfortable bed was calling my name from the moment I stepped through the door. There's lots of impressive touches to discover in the room too, including a high-tech bathroom, walk-in closet and coffee machine.

I couldn't believe how close I was to the incredible shops and boutiques of Mayfair; the hotel was quiet, serene and yet a five minute walk to some of London's hottest shopping spots. It's also close enough to Covent Garden and Leicester Square that, on a nice day, can be walked.

The hotel has plenty of dining options to choose from too; Café Biltmore is a vibrant and relaxing spot for all-day dining while The Tea Lounge is where to head for a traditional British afternoon tea.

For drinks, The Pine Bar is an ideal spot to unwind in and enjoy a creative cocktail or two, created by the team's mixologists and drawing inspiration from across the globe

100 Queen's Gate Hotel

This five-star boutique central London hotel is situated in the heart of Kensington, walking distance from many main attractions including the fabulous Natural History Museum, Science Museum and the V&A.

The hotel is the former home of Victorian aristocrat and explorer William Alexander and the property makes the most of its exciting history, with references to him and his trips to Asia all around. There are origami displays made from law book pages suspended from the ceiling and there are display cabinets full of curiosities such as William’s collections of porcelain, stamps and even medical tools to inspect and investigate during your stay.

The hotel has recently launched its brand new W/A Kensington Restaurant and Bar which services both hotel guests and local diners looking for a really delicious modern Belgium meal.

The moules frites and the steak tartare really stood out when we visited, but in fact the chef shakes up the menu so regularly, bringing influences from around the world, that every time you visit you'll have something new to try.

Upstairs, and the rooms and suites are luxurious and stylish - 10 suites are named after famous Kensington and Chelsea former residents such as Agatha Christie, Alfred Hitchcock, and Lord Robert Baden Powell.

Prices start from £215 per room. To book, visit booking.com.

Hilton London Bankside

Located in walking distance from London’s most iconic attractions, Hilton London Bankside offers a family-friendly  home from home. From the moment you arrive, this hotel feels like a serene oasis in the heart of the city. With a fitness studio, indoor swimming pool and beautiful restaurant, this hotel really does have it all.

And unlike other hotels, this establishment doesn’t just accept children, it encourages children to be involved in their stay. With a goody bag full of crayons, a children’s city map and child-size bathrobes and slippers for all mini travellers, kids are more than welcome at this hotel. Be sure to book in to the OXBO Bankside, the hotel’s excellent restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast selection was incredible, with the fluffiest pancakes we have ever tasted and we highly recommend the chicken salad for dinner.

Zedwell Piccadilly Circus

The Zedwell offers 'cocoon' rooms which are small yet perfectly formed, with modern touches such as light woods and crisp linens. Malin & Goetz toiletries and a spacious rainfall shower give a luxurious feel to the offering, which falls into a more affordable price bracket for such a central location in Piccadilly Circus.

We’d recommend heading down to the Lounge Restaurant and Terrace within the grounds, where if you’re lucky, you’ll be served by the fabulous Graciano Diniz, an experienced member of the team. Graciano recommended the Thai Green Cauliflower and Chickpea Curry and we were not disappointed - what a dish! The perfect part of this choice? We had just enough room to try desserts, and it was the Chocolate and Orange Tart that made this dinner even more spectacular - don’t miss out on trying this sweet treat!
